New (used) Kubota tractor issue?

I recently purchased a used Kubota M8540DT (1700hrs) from a local dealer. This tractor will replace my MF265 and will be used for field mowing and hay moving / loading.

I really like the Kubota... the only problem is the clutch. It is so touchy, I have already hit several things because it grabs as you try and engage it.

I tried this tractor out before buying. It worked fine mowing several acres of pasture but I noticed the clutch issue. When I brought it up with the salesman, he offered to contact the original owner and investigate. The prior owner claimed the clutch has always been that way from the day it was new.

So... I bought the tractor thinking I would get used to the feel of the clutch with a little practice. I think that I am better with it now, but still really concerned about using the hay grapple to stack hay in the barn - time will tell.

I would appreciate any input on this issue. Are there other M8540 owners that have the same problem? In other words, is this a characteristic of this particular model? Or, could there be a problem with the clutch that has always been there and could be fixed if it were tore down?

Having 1700 hours, and depending on just how the tractor was used by the previous owner, it is possible that you might be due for a new clutch.

Are there any adjustments for the clutch linkage?

Yes, the clutch linkage has adjustment but according to the manual it is set correctly.

I should also mention, the prior owner had added a grease fitting to the pivot point on the linkage. And, there is a bungee strap tied to the linkage in an effort to add some tension to the pedal movement. I have removed the strap to test and could not see a lot of difference in the clutch operation. In my mind, these steps tend to support the story that the clutch has always been touchy.
