But if you don’t yet have a barn, the one you want to build will be higher in cost.

Better get a second job to pay for the steel tariffs.

Don't forget the tariffs on wood!

Remember when interest rates increase, so does our rate of return on stable investments (bonds, CDs, etc).

Personally, I am all for anything that creates jobs in the US. Step 1 was to lower business taxes. Step 2 is to force companies to actually make things here, so the economy gets the benefit of step 1. The last thing we want is to give businesses a financial boon but not realize the benefits. As a result, I am guarded but do like the overall thought process. As with all things economic, we will have to wait and see what happens.

Ruffdog,

Since the thread title is rather clearly noted, still waiting for introduction of wooden tractors other than toys. These types of threads always fall off the rails.

EDIT: Unless a foreign government is subsidizing tractor production it still has nothing to do w/ this thread title.

All trade should be free or charge the other country the same tariff they are charging us on similar items. Pretty simple concept.

In general I agree with the hands off approach. But, in addition to other thoughts mentioned, this is difficult because products are form different "systems". I was in an industry that was dying in america because we could not buy our raw materials for the same price that China was selling product. The Chinese Government was the partner in the industry because it needed a domestic supply and it needed jobs so the goal was not necessarily to make money. So how does an industry (in the USA) where domestic supply is critical, compete? - Just a thought to add to the "its complicated" points...

I visited two hardware stores Saturday wanting a small adjustable wrench. Each had their own label and at least one had Cresent...I left refusing to buy a China made wrench. If I had to have it would have but it was a want in that size so I passed.

Was in Lowes Friday night and the gentleman in tools said he had been told the Craftsman label is to be brought back to made in USA. No idea if he is correct.

My last 2 experiences with Channellock have been terrible. I’ll need buy another one unless they improve. My Doyle brand stuff from harbor freight are better and cost half as much.

You wonder what wood has to do with tractors? I just built my carry-all for the "tractor" and the WOOD to do this little project came to $100. Yeah, they say the price climbed because of tariffs.
