Day 5. The roof is on ! There is a wire mesh screen under the ridge vent to keep birds from nesting. The skylights are a nice add. Our 2 dogs keeping a eye on things ! That platform truck is super. Should finish up the front tomorrow. View attachment 565764View attachment 565765View attachment 565766View attachment 565767View attachment 565768View attachment 565769View attachment 565770
Nobody is talking about the trusses. They look perfect. The purlins are the boards that span the distance between the trusses. To some of us who build and work on houses for a living, they are smaller for such a long span, then we would use. While they are probably fine, it is just a little surprising to see them up there.
That is what we did on the pole barn that we put up a few years back. A 2' band under the eaves. The next one will also get one of the gable ends filled in with translucent panels as well. That way we can get more of the evening sun in.Just wondering if you considered putting them across the side at the top, just under the eave? Do you get much hail in your area?
Very NICE Building!

And in one pic it looks like they are spliced between raftr s rather than on them? Maybe used 12ft 2x4s?

All this debate about truss design ... I think everyone needs to take a look at the pictures again.
It appears to me the only 2x4's in the trusses are the web. The bottom cord looks like 2x6 and the top cord looks like 2x8.

The one we put up has panels on the North and South sides under the eaves. The next one will have panels on the North and South sides under the eaves as well as panels on the West end in the gable.Best way to light up a building with sunlight is from the sides.
