Be afraid, be VERY afraid! Don't know why they are dying but do know they are very dangerous, spread multiple diseases. Last bite I had took 18 months to heal but, far as I know, didn't get any diseases. Watch out for a bullseye ring around a bite, that's a symptom of Lyme disease.

I sometimes go to the doctor if a bite looks suspicious. Sometimes the doc or PA gives me a course of meds just to be on the safe side. I get the feeling they're doing it more to humor me than anything else.
Do you know why your bite took so long to heal?

I don't know. The bite was under my upper right arm and itched like he|| but I didn't scratch it. It would seem to be healing then for no obvious reason flair up again. The cycle repeated several times during the 18 months before it actually did heal. Perhaps the tick's head was embedded? :confused3:

Has anyone here heard of/used tick tubes? I have saved a bunch of cardboard TP rolls to make some. Just wondering if they are worth making and putting around the GA. property

Permethrin works great, you can buy it about anywhere in a spray can, I spray from my knees down and I find dead ticks on my pants and socks, not for skin at all, it's nasty stuff.. My brother didn't know he had lyme's disease until he went for his annual checkup, he had to go to a doctor that treats it with liquid lyme's, just the diet alone is a pain, he can't eat anything with any kind of bacteria, no dairy or anything with sugar for 8 months. The doctor says his immune system is now destroying the disease, two more months at $700 for the medications each month. He feels great and has lost 50lbs which he needed to do anyway, his joints were killing him in the AM, not anymore..

There are not many doctors around that treat it, he has to drive 100 miles each month to see him..

If any of you guys get the red circle go get it checked, it's SO much easier to cure if you do it quickly.

I read that if an area itches take a wet washcloth as hot as you can stand and apply to area. Itch will stop!
It works for me.
I tried Frontline Plus on my cats for fleas this spring and it worked for 2 days!
Vet recommended a new product "Catego" (got at Petco) it worked great.
I had bug bombed my house over a month with 18 bombs to finally knock them down also.

20mg of Simvastatin for cholesterol gave me leg cramps so my doctor switched me to 10mg of Atorvastatin. While I have picked up my share of ticks in the woods over time, bugs in general never bothered me that much. Well, perhaps the no-see=ums and black flies in Canada. Anyway, I am finding more and more bug bites as I get older.

I tell my wife that I am getting sweeter with age but she just rolls her eyes?

I'm glad it finally stopped.

I guess there is one thing to be thankful for about fireants.

We used to have ticks down here bad. I had been bitten a number of times back in the late '60's and '70's, but not much since. I remember having to pick ticks off dogs regularly. What a PITA.

I do remember one guy at work possibly getting Lyme back in the late '80's.
