Problem with Starting New DK4510

New tractor has been perfect for first 25 or so hours. Went to do some mowing on Sunday and something very strange happened. After mowing for a few hours, I took a break. When I went to re-start the tractor, I turned the key to the on position and everything lit up normally like it should on the dash. Then it got weird. When I pushed in the clutch to crank the tractor, the tractor started without rotating the key to the crank position. Thought hmmm, that痴 odd. Shut it down, removed the key completely and tried again. This time, I had the clutch pushed in before I turned the key to the on position. As soon as I turned the key to the on position, the tractor cranked up. It immediately threw error codes 001, 002, 006, 007 and 008 and the check engine light came on. After about 5 seconds, the errors cleared and the CEL went out. I decided to put the tractor away until this was fixed.

Its acting like the starter circuit is stuck in the crank position but the starter does not seem to be spinning other than when the tractor is initially cranking up. Dealer is going to give me a new key switch to try before hauling it in for warranty service.

Wanted to see if anybody else has experienced anything similar or had any recommendations on what to look at before taking it in for warranty repair.

Honestly - I think you made the correct decision. That situation could become dangerous - if the tractor decided to start all by itself or went into the "start mode" while running.

Don't you just love that "high technology" is improving our lives with heavy equipment.

Could be a stuck starter relay. Kiotis seem to have a history on failed relays.
I had a stuck relay on my truck. Had to call a mobile mechanic. That road call and starter were $900. When we hooked up the batteries, it did the same again. $30 fixed the problem.

Dealer gave me a new key switch to try. Installed it today and still have the problem. I guess I need to have it picked up for warranty service. Bummer.

Good thing I didn't bet ! I was sure it would have been the key switch because so many on have had trouble with the switch . But wait - maybe the new switch is bad ?

if it gives you error codes, that means it has a computer to give you them.. perhaps the computer went bad.. I tried to find the wiring diagram, but all that was on the web was scam/phishing sites pretending to give you the diagram.. there was a guy on YouTube that said there is a delay relay that could prevent the tractor from turning off, perhaps it controls the starter too..

Still nothing. Dealer says that they've done everything as directed by Kioti but nothing has worked and now the tractor will not start at all.

They are waiting for authorization to replace the ECM and it's taking way too long. My grass is 4' tall.

Hoping this is a one time unique occurrence and I didn't make a mistake with going Kioti. This is a little silly for a tractor with 24 hours on the clock.

I think the new ECM will cure your problem. If not, ask for a replacement tractor. You are moving up on a month without a tractor and it is basically brand new.

They replaced the ECM and it fixed the issue - or so they thought. Delivery was scheduled for yesterday and when they went to load the tractor, it would not start. Now I’m getting frustrated.

it's a shame they don't have someone capable of a proper diagnosis. when it won't start is the best time to find out what is missing, and why, and they should have at least the service manual with the wiring diagram, but maybe they don't.. although the problem could be defective ECM design, which shows up under certain conditions, if that's the case, I'd suggest returning the tractor, and finding a better brand..

Ask for a replacement tractor if they can't find the problem within a week. By now they should have checked all the safety switches that need to be activated in order to start your tractor. Someone needs more training or you have a bad wire or connector somewhere.

someone needs more training if the problem presents itself for a long enough time such as this.. it's intermittent problems that don't give you time for a diagnosis that can take a long time to fix.. not this..

If they started at point A, the battery, and worked their way down to the starter they should be able to find the problem.

Just demand another Tractor ! After all of this it has to leave a bad taste in your mouth and I bet it tastes like Lemon .

Finally got tractor back. ECM was replaced and they had to do something to the battery.

Tractor starts up now no problem. Hopefully that was it.

great!. but that's mind boggling if it was a battery problem, and they took so long to figure it out!. unless, there's something they didn't tell you.. like, they had to replace the ECM AGAIN, because it was defective?..
