about the Acetylene tank, they are measured with the cap screwed on. measured with the cap off, you could have anything from a WC 111 cu. ft. up to a WS or WSL tank, 130 cu. ft. you should see one of these markings on it.

Yes, I was measuring 32" at the collar.

Would 'UWS' be significant? I don't see the letters you mentioned. I do wonder how many cubic feet this tank has. Also, its interesting someone marked '211' in soapstone which is what the regulator reads.

Thanks for the heads up on the tank being almost full. There have only been a few times I was wanting heat to persuade something over the years. This tank should last through the next estate sale.

Also took some pictures of the Oxy tank.

Was this tank born in 1949? Last tested in 95 with a '+' indicating 10% overpressure okay? Pretty amazing how old some of the stuff is in the back of garages.

Thanks one & all for educating me. I can Google stuff but I wasn't smart enough to know what to Google!

The level of collective knowledge available on this forum is, once again, amazing.

it may be a "WC" tank, 111 cu. ft. since the cap is about 6" tall.. and UWC is probably the manufacturer of the tank, maybe United Welding Corporation, which at one time, may have manufactured that tank, before they went bankrupt, and merged with another company.. you are safe, the tank is yours, then.. but use tips that use at most 15 cu. ft./hr. to avoid damaging your regulator and hoses!.. I won't think of what would happen if that happened, and you had a flame going!!.. too scary..

Thanks for feedback. I also failed in the search. Didn't know if the Prest-o-lite W-250 was an off brand, just too old, or Google didn't feel helpful today.

~Bob

The W250 takes the same parts as the older 275. Might try to search for that too.

maybe someone sells an adapter from Prest-o-lite to Victor tips, only one adapter would be needed.. mounted on the torch..
