Well, Uncle Mickie just to make you happy I took your advice and coated the trailer deck with Rustoleum black paint today. Should go a long ways to help preserve the decking. Looks good all black. The trailer tag says it was built August 1 of this year but was dry enough to suck up almost a whole gallon of the paint.

The trailer is already licensed for the remainder of this year. It came from the dealer that way. Going to have to look into the Maine registration though. The savings would be substantial compared to current NY fee. I wonder what the down side of a Maine registration would be. Is there a downside?

I bought the 22’ steel deck version last year. It it the “deluxe” version with the supposed upgraded wheels and tires. The storage compartment in the tongue is the best part.
I had loaded it to 15k and towed it with no problems. The painted finish is easy to touch up. That was a big selling point over powder coat.

Don't know about any potential issues with your ultra liberal NY governor.
There are more than 700,000 trailers registered in Maine, and MANY are NOT owned by Maine residents.
A transportation company near me (not in Maine) has a small fleet of trailer dumps, and they all have Maine tags.
When you are out on any interstate highway, check out the 18 wheeler trailer registrations.
You will see a LOT of Maine trailer tags.

What did you end paying for it if you dont mind me asking
Well, I took a second look and decided to purchase the Quality trailer. I picked it up Tuesday and now am waiting for some chains and binders to arrive so that I can try it out with a load on it. Empty it pulls easy. The people at the dealership take care of everything. I was very happy with the price and the buying experience. Hopefully I will be just as pleased after accumalating a lot of miles on it. They said that the model I got was their best selling model. Its the pro model 15000 lb with the 8 ft fixed deck. Can't wait to put it to work. This is what it looks like.

That is very nice. Heartland is a common brand trailer in these parts currently. We picked up a 10 year old 22' tilt (M&M now out of business) with 4' fixed plate steel and 16' of wood and 2' of plate steel and pick up a plate for it on the way home for $29 so we can go out of KY into other states with less concerns. It has two 7K pound axles with brakes.

The trailer I bought was $4695 plus the usual NY fees. The only option I got was a spare tire and wheel for $ 220. The model was the pro model which is rated at 15000 #. The lockable tool box on the tongue is standard and has room for 5 chains and ratcheting binders plus a tad more. They run a real efficient operation. I think the only place they advertise is on Craig's List. Here is a link to the add that got me to visit them.
