Good to know your new TV has a better tuner and works well.
We are looking to get a new 50 inch tv. Any chance you could post a link or part number of the one you bought from Walmart ?

Update: With my new TV antenna I got 46 channels with 42 of them being always clear. We decided to upgrade to a larger TV. Our TV was a 2009 RCA 42" that we paid $900 for. I bought a new Sceptre 50" from Walmart for $199.

The new TV gets 50 channels with all of them clear and with an amazing picture. I guess that the newer TVs have improved tuners over the older models.

I have not read though the posts but this unit works well for your selection of transmitters . Quality low loss RG-6 cable is essential . The higher the antenna the better . Daughter has one of these on her house in Sarnia mounted 2ft above the roof peak on a bungalow house . The Little Winegard receives most of the channels most of the time from way down in Detroit .
. Sorry, missed attaching the link to the antenna . FlatWave Air - Amplified Outdoor TV Antenna

I miss local TV stations and the local news. Anchors who are experiencing the same blizzard I am.

I sometimes miss TV scheduling my life. News at 6 and 11, then bed. Or Tuesdays is such and such night.

We lost most of our local national transmitters too. But SHAW satalite had to provide a certain number of rural customers with dishes and receiver to make up for the lost transmitters. I got one, but am informed that I have to get an upgraded receiver to go high def! It's free except for shipping but I asked about the LNB and they said it also had to be replaced but not free, so WTF?

I don't think I get any over the air UHF or VHF signals, but a friend farther south gets lots but all from the US. Doesn't Canada have any free over the air stuff left in rural areas?

We got the cord, well Sat Signal, years ago. I bought a Winegard antennae after talking to the TBN radio experts and put it in the attic. The reviews on Amazon were good, not really good, but it seemed to be the best omni direction antennae. Best being relative. The number of channels it picked up was amazing. The problem was that after 6-12 months it would only pick up a few stations. Thankfully, it picks up the stations we really watch, which is not that many, but it is still disappointing that it dropped channels.

We added a TV to the bedroom and even though we have a coax connection there I bought a cheap flat antennae for it. Which works just fine. But after a few months, guess what, the signals it first picked up can no longer be found.

Added a new tv to the kitchen and with no antennae it picks up the few stations we watch. But guess what. After a few months, it too no longer picks up certain stations. :confused3:

It is almost like the tuners degrade over time. With the Winegard I figured it was a problem with amplifier since other people had mentioned the same behavior. However, with the other two TV sets, I wonder what is really going on. The TV stations still exist and I can't believe they moved to different transmission towers.

Dan

I would bet the stations are going Hi Def. Some as here, go off UHF/VHF (Towers) and are available only on Salalite or Cable.

Also, in doing a scan, you might pick up stations far away due to atmospheric conditions. And then they won't be there when you want to watch them.

I though about atmospheric conditions, but if that was the case, eventually I would be able to see the channels again and we don't. I don't think HD would be an issue since the TV's can handle it and the antennaes are UHF/VHF. I suppose the stations could have gone off the air but that would be bunch of TV stations. It really is odd but since we did not watch the stations it is not a big deal. Just odd.

What is funny is that the stations we watch are showing old reruns and one of the local major broad cast stations has a channel now that is just old tv shows.:laughing::laughing:

If there is a cheapy chinese amplifier, it may be the culprit.
