I see threads all the time on what brand, model whatever to buy. Almost always it turns into “I have X brand model and it’s good” despite the fact it’s the only one they’ve used. I personally put almost no faith in such reviews but pay closer attention to dissatisfaction.

A lot of dissatisfaction posts are one-sided. We've had many, many people join TBN and their first post is, dealer sucks, brand sucks, model sucks, etc.... they have an ax to grind.

So reader beware.

I do like the posts where people list both pros and cons of a machine. Even if its the only machine they've ever had, most people can find things that could use improvement on their machines after several hours of operation, and likewise, things that work really well.

A lot of dissatisfaction post are silly. Like “my new X brand tractor has a blown headlight. X brand sucks.” Put on your big boy pants and move on. And this thread was really meant more towards hand tools where it’s harder to form your own opinions before buying.

Which one is it? You like dissatisfaction posts or you don't like dissatisfaction posts? :confused3:

When is the last time you made a big fuss about something that worked the way it was intended?

Sort of like mowing the lawn. If it looks good, nothing more gets said.

Agree.

When someone posts a negative review, first thing I check is what other posts they've made. Some people come on here and b*tch and moan for a few weeks, then disappear forever. No updates. No tips for the group. No engagement. Just, like you say, an apparent ax to grind.

I believe even a newbie's *honest* opinions are worth something...at least they are current. Otherwise I wouldn't bother posting at all. Things change, and paens to 30-year-old tractor models may be of limited use to folks searching for a new tractor.

Context is everything!

Your new tractor blows a headlight bulb. Who cares? You and 5 others have X brand tractor that keeps breaking in half. That sounds like a tractor you don’t want. And the review of someone that owes or has at least spent a little time using another model carries a lot more weight IMO.

Which six tractors broke in half?!!!

I Don't want one of those!

Pulling Tractor breaks in half - YouTube

Farmall or Oliver? I couldn't tell.
****! In spite of the hundreds of thousands of happy users, I don't want one of those!

Now, those Chinese pieces of crap that are here and gone, that's different.

I made both things up. I don’t recall anyone mad about a headlight bulb or 6 tractors breaking in half.
