There is a wildlife committee here in the neighborhood. They count deer to see how many get captured and processed. There were saying at one meeting that deer cannot digest corn and tell everyone not to feed the deer. I don't know about that, but with all the irrigated shrubs they have an ample food supply and are very tame.

Morning to all;

I wish someone would tell all of the deer in this area that they can't digest corn and to stop ruining the outside 10-20 rows in every field next to the woods.
Every farmer around here would appreciate it.

Lou

Corn is a common diet for deer in my area. After corn has been harvested here you will see herds of deer feeding on the leftovers. Apparently they do not do well if they switch from a leaf/fiber diet to a grain diet.

Walmart, Tractor Supply, and many other places sell big bags of corn that are labelled as "deer corn". And the deer feeders that are sold all over the area are usually loaded with corn.

I don't understand feeding deer. No predators around here. They multiply as fast as rabbits. It is not uncommon these past few years to see does with triplets. It is not natural. It is an imbalance.

roadsides mowed, only had to get out five times to pick up trash, about average...
put up two new no no no signs, actually I think it's about five no no's... on the far side of the property. Old ones had blown away, screwed this set down instead of stapling.
now out to mow and weedeat.

before I mowed I gave the 84inch LP finish mower a thorough greasing, and pto's
continue to challenge me, getting the right angle on the angled zerk inside the pto universal joint
vs grease pumping out instead of in. Very little clearance for anything in there. So you pop the electric pto knob on for a split second and hope like a roulette
wheel it lands on a good spot.

with the price of beef, I sure wish Food Lion would offer venison.
Best use for a deer I've seen...
Gigantic rodents.

We feed them, we put out minerals for them, we plant food plots for them. We prefer to keep them healthy.

Why is that a perceived problem?

Drew, have you checked prices to get the driveway sprayed with sealer?

could not find reputable established dealer in town. Tried using a neighbor down the street who I didn't know and they
were incompetent gypsies. Two guys in a pickup...job was awful. Such a bad experience I am determined to do it myself.
What I'm putting on is almost gel like, should be good sealing of holes and cracks, which I'm pretreating anyway. Spray on stuff is
very watery from my experience. Not a lot of product put down. I've had that done in prior homes and had to do it almost every year.
I'm putting a lot of product down and other than tree roots doing their thing, which is inescapable where I am, I hope this keeps the road nice for at least three years. Driveway is 3 1/2 years old and had problems with edges from the beginning.

I have two poles, squeegees, brushes and a big electric drill stirrer for the buckets of goop. I'm also going to make some movable edge forms to prevent black stuff from getting too far. Videos say cut in the edges first for about ten feet, then work backwards down the middle. I'm supervising...

off to go road mowing in a/c. I'll come back to the garden to sweat...

Reading this makes me happy we did concrete drive.
