I have two grease guns, one with marine grease for the boat / trailer and one with general purpose heat resistant grease for my riding lawnmower since it requires it. I have been using the Mystik hi temp grease from Tractor Supply on my tractor that I use on riding lawn mower to avoid having to maintain and keep up with a third grease gun. Is this ok?

The only grease I definitely would not use is clay based greases. They do not resist water well. I virtually use a moly base grease on everything, except wheel bearings, even though it is messy. Impossible to wash it from rags and stains my overalls.

Kubota recommends moly supplemented lithium based grease for contemporary tractors.

Mediocre grease applied regularly is better than expensive grease applied infrequently.

Preach it. Grease regularly & worry less about what type of grease you use. Just pick one & stick with it. Some grease types aren't compatible, but that's not a problem if you clean out the old stuff before switching.

I use some of the nasty black molly stuff on everything but wheel bearings myself (have a tub of high temp wheel bearing grease for hand packing wheel bearings). With as hard as it is to get off hands & clothes, you can probably assume its going to stay on the bearings & bushings.

I learned of Mystic green when I had a boat. I was using red in everything. Ran some tests on the red vs green and couldn't tell the difference in ability to stay in place in a water environment so I stuck to the red. Red is red as I see it whether it's wallyworld red or TSC red or Mystic red or whomever.

It is my understanding the red grease is for high temp applications and not what I will call normal use. Have had two different brand dealers recommend the red high temp for such as blade spindles but not for say linkage. I do use the red high temp on excavator bucket pins for water will not wash it out very easy. The red high temp is too sticky for low temp uses.

I read somewhere that Moly is for sliding surfaces, not rolling surfaces as it't too slick for such. I have a tube for that...use a popsickle stick for an applicator and only on sliding surfaces. When I ran sickle bar hay cutters, that's a sliding surface that likes it.

On using red grease for low temp applications, the only thing I can see where that might hurt something is that it may remain too viscous for a ball to roll in a race......I guess that'll just hit me one of these days as I have many bearings on my farm crammed full of it and the way it's been since I can't remember when.

Not so much fun with a backhoe. I switched to a 5% moly grease that holds and lasts longer than the old 3% product I was using. Not good for wheel bearings.

Last time I did wheel bearings I just bought the travelers waterproof marine stuff from TS. Not sure if it's any good but time will tell.

I use whatever is on sale at Tractor Supply. That is typically their Multi-Purpose Lithium or heavier duty rated red high temp grease. I do have some corn head grease for use in gearboxes if needed.
