New Holland 1620
I have a Ford New Holland 1620 with the matching loader, that I bought new in 1996, I dearly love this little tractor. My needs have changed a little and I know could use a backhoe attachment or a different tractor with a backhoe.

Has anyone had much success with the 3 point backhoe? I would love to have the OE New Holland attachment with the sub frame, but they seem to be extremely scares.

THANKS in advance
Lee

I have a 1620 and would NOT use A 3 point BH on any compact. Likely tear the top link right off the housing. I have a 50 hp Utility tractor which employs a 10 Ft Long brand BH. It is 3 point design but we fabricated a subframe due to top link concerns.

If you go ahead w/ the project, avoid any harsh excavating. You would likely need a PTO pump, tractor hydraulics are minimal for a hoe. My 1620 does not have any rear remote valves, I sistered an additional 2 spool valve, power beyond, next to the loader valve, to power my rear hydraulic top link and loader mount hydraulic auger.

Would not wish to see you DAMAGE your tractor. Consolidate the excavating tasks, rent a mini excavator for a weekend. Faster and safer.

Kind of my thoughs , but wanted to hear other opinions, My 1620 had performed perfectly for my, don't want to do anything that would mess it up. I have need of a hoe now.. been thinking about trading ti. but I hate to see it go

There should be aftermarket BH out there that offer subframe mounting for your tractor. I'd look at them before trading it in, always liked the old Ford/NH tractors.

You will ALWAYS regret it if you sell your little 1620.
Keep the 1620, and look for, and buy, a used LARGER machine, with a sub frame mounted BH..
Not necessarily a huge old machine, but something that is somewhat larger than the 1620.

I have been searching for quite sometime, I have found a few NH backhoes, but have not been able to find a subframe.. Thursday I found a 1920, with loader and backhoe 2.5 hours east of me.. I am going to look at it on Tuesday. May be the perfect setup for me

I know nothing about the capabilities of the 1920 backhoe, but the 32 HP 1920 tractor/loader is a fantastic little machine.
I bought a 1000 hour 1920 FEL 3 years ago, and have now restored it to like new condition.
I will NEVER sell my 1920 FEL, but I do also have a 48 HP Ford 3400 TLB.
