I've got an old equipment trailer with a 16' bed for moving my tractor around. I need to move some other stuff as well, but it would be best suited for an enclosed cargo trailer (think boxes, household goods, stuff like that). Pricing out Cargo trailers I'm starting to wonder if I could put some kind of removable cargo box on my existing trailer and save some money. Anyone ever see anything like this? I don't need a lot of space, a cube that was say 8L x 7W x 4H would probably be just fine.. and what I'm carrying isn't that heavy. The trailer itself is a beast with a 10k capacity or something similar. Decking is wood so I could screw into it if I wanted, or even make some kind of wooden box that was removable.

Anyone ever do this? See it? Think of it? Would love it if there were some kind of portable cargo box I could drop on when I needed it and take off when I don't.

Never seen it done but if it works for you, why not try it and see how it goes.

But with a little wood and hardware it transforms into a stake sided trailer to haul "stuff"

or an enclosed to haul stuff w/ water protection.

Something like 40 or 50 flat Ubolts, lumber and a DeWalt 20V max screwdriver to assemble it all and disassemble it all.

^^^^
Nice setup, and you can laugh all of the way to the bank with the money you saved by not buying and operating another trailer.

Nice! What are the side and roof panels made of?

Why not, U-haul is, they even have a special little trailer that holds 2 with the doors facing to the outside....We've been recycling crates for a shipping company and as you can see in the picture they are fairly simple. 6 sheets of plywood, some dunnage and 1 x, couple of hinges. I was a little p.o'd with myself when I saw somebody else came up with a better idea for them .

Roof 1/2" PT plywood.
Sides - started out with w/ 3/4" PT but "repurposed" that and now use some 3/4 marine ply, w/ 3 coats of paint.

Pretty cool. I may have to take a shot at it. Given the pricing on cargo trailers I could go crazy and still come out ahead.

How long will it stay on or is this a rare occasion that its needed? Just get a delivery box off of a box truck. Completely sealed and has a nice roll up door usually. I sold one for $400. Usually it's hard to get rid of them around here.

Unfortunately mostly leak tight boxes and even junk unroadworthy trucks bring good money for storage sheds around here. Sea boxes usually bring 2k delivered. Sometimes semi trailers can be had cheap, but old ones that sell cheap are expensive to move.
