So my aunt has a Kubota BX that is hard starting when not run for a day or so, the weird thing is, when I remove the intake it starts no problem at all, Nothing rubbing on intake, it doesn't touch anything, the filter was dirty but I cleaned it with compressed air, I took the whole intake apart to see if a mouse had built a nest in there or something but nothing, very strange.. I hope it's not a compression problem, it has 130 hours on it.. She mows an acre with it and that's about it.. Just thought I would take a look before it's gone for three weeks to the dealer..

You say it is hard starting when not run for a day or so. If you start it then let it sit for a couple hours (with the intake on) it'll start right up? Just not if you let it sit for a day or more?

Actually it will start right up after a half hour of sitting then it's takes a while to start..

Sure sounds like glow plugs to me....but that doesn't correlate to removing the intake. Either that or the fuel leaking into the cylinders? Any smoke when it does finally start after a day or more?

Black smoke.. I removed the glow plugs and put 12v to them, I checked them for 12V installed and I made sure the engine had a good ground..

With the black smoke, that makes me think fuel is leaking down into the cylinder(s) when sitting. Would cause the hard start and the smoke once started.

What cause that? leaking injectors.. And does that have anything to do with the removal of the intake?

You have now exhausted anything I would try to help with so that I don't give you wrong advice and have you chasing your tail.

I would think an individual injector is leaking down....but someone with more knowledge than me (which is about 99% of the others) hopefully can weigh in.
