PTO shafts.....need to be educated

Remember that the u-joints need to be in phase with each other; probably a no-brainer if a shop that specializes in them does your work.

CHeck out i beleive it was georgia equipment. Igot anew shaft with slip clutch for my 5 ft tiller for 140 bucks.

thank you! I've actually been on ebay looking at them, and I can get a new one for around that price. So I've called the driveshaft guy and told him not to fix my old one, since the implement end is too short anyway and I'm not sure the clutch is even working any more, I'm just going to order a new one today

Most importantly when sizing (cutting) PTO shaft is that shaft can freely telescope to the shortest required position it will experience, in all positions, when implement is on the tractor's 3 point hitch.
You don't want to lower the tractor's 3PTH and have the pto shaft "telescope" bottom out, and all the weight of the implement is being held up by the bearing at the tractors PTO spindle.
Typically, but not always, the shortest position required of the PTO shaft is when the shaft is level in relation to the tractor's PTO spindle. If I have enough slack in the "telescope" connect/disconnect the PTO at this position, I'm probably good.
