This is an outside dual on my nephew’s 250 HP 4wd tractor. Tire looked a little better than this, but not much, when he bought it used 6 years ago. All the outside duals are similar. No reason to change - it keeps going. So how bad must a tire be to require changing? Worse than this!

Good LORD! Critters could be living in that tyre.

Greenpeace or PETA could put an injunction on it as a "native habitat".

He's run them longer than I would have. I am surprised they still hold air.

Wouldn’t be using them except they are outside of halfway decent inside tires so if one blows on the road it isn’t dangerous. It does show how bad a tire can look and still work.

No reason to change till it doesn't hold air :drink:

I recently changed the tires on a 1974 fiat allis road grader. The industrial tire dealer said the tires hadn't been made in decades and may have been original. I can't confirm or even believe that would be true but it's possible. They looked similar to those and lived it's life in the Texas sun.

He isn't getting much benefit from those duals as far as traction goes, maybe flotation, but I doubt that he is looking for flotation on a 250 HP tractor. I would change them out for at minimum a newer tire that more nearly matches the wear of the inside dual so both tires have approximately the same ground contact.

Many years ago when I had to contend with duals we always ran the more worn and shorter tire on the outside so as to reduce the strain and stress on the axles and hubs.
As far as replacing those outside duals even worn and ragged as they are they are boosting traction and adding flotation to reduce ground compaction.
Also at well over $2000 each for 42" radials that is serious money that isn't a necessity yet.

"No reason to change", except maybe safety.

Something new every day. Honestly - never seen a working tire in that condition. Never seen a discarded tire at the tire dealer in that condition.
