Enclosed trailer - Is a V-front worth it?

Practicality gets in the way of aerodynamics. Look at a jetliner fuselage, or a fish. Very blunt and rounded on the front and pointed at the rear.

it would be interesting to see a wind tunnel test of a V-nose trailer body in forward and reverse orientation.

Oh, nice. Well of course you can disregard everything else I said. I don't think it will matter much what you put behind it. I'd choose the less expensive trailer (assuming build quality is the same).

P.S. Nice truck. I drove one for a while years ago and that is a beast. I sometimes wish I still had it.

One thing I don’t like about v trailers is that if you need to run a weight distributing hitch, you are pretty much screwed as far as I can tell

Did not sound confusing to me when empty got 17 when pulled the trailer got 12 mpg. I did have a 6 liter Ford diesel in that time frame as well same basic fuel numbers. The Dodge got the same fuel mileage when pulling any of my trailers deck over or 6ft 6 by 12 ft single axle. Sorry for the confusion

If you used my truck as the determining factor I do not think the flat vs v nose would make any difference. Both of those trucks are long gone now have a 6.7 F250 fuel mileage basically the same 17 to 18 when empty 11to 12 when pulling our deck over goose neck or the 12 ft single axle. The enclosed trailer is gone

It seems the WD's I've looked at have a way to mount under the frame, but it is a concern.

I pulled a flat front enclosed race car trailer with my Tundra and while I noticed it behind me as long as I didn't try to push it past 65 mph it wasn't bad. However if I was going into a headwind then it felt like I was pulling an anchor. If I was to do it again I would go with a Vee nose. I put a tool box where the Vee would be since it was unused space. I would of rather had it inside the trailer.

I suspect there will be very little difference on the MPG. As far as grabbing the wind I also suspect a full size truck in front will pretty well eliminate most aerodynamic benefit from the V front.
I do know that the lost enclosed hauling space really is irritating on a almost daily basis when using my v-nose. Will never buy another.

I never had an enclosed trailer and never shopped for one. But, I thought the V-nose was additional enclosed hauling space.??

It depends on the trailer and how you measure the length. Many measure the length at the front of the v-nose vs at the transition from v walls to straight walls. That will cost you several feet compared to a flat nose trailer.
