LD1 was the short block that alibaba had not an option

Not familiar enough with Alibaba.

My understanding is it's alot of Chinese knockoff junk and takes several weeks for a boat ride, customs charges, etc

Gauges and/or lights won't prevent this situation. An audible alarm would improve your odds.

Auto shutdown isn't practical on a tractor that sees rough terrain

I don't know if they were an "option" or not.??
Theres a co that makes them.. called>> Murphy gauges/switches. & they're a PITA..

All the case backhoes at work have Murphy switches. Have to push a button to override the oil pressure to start up. They are pita. They do work. I only had to replace 1 in 3 years of fixing stuff. I think it was broke from getting accidentally whacked, not from malfunctioning.

My brother just put a motor with 300 hours for $2000 in my BX2660; found a guy who ships containers of engines. I would have been too worried about quality, but he's a mechanic and asked enough questions to trust them. He checked it out before installation, so time will tell.

Someone, not me ran it too hot too long and seized it. He added an auto high temp shutdown on the new one.

have you thought about contacting Kubota or done the research to see if another Kubota motor they make will fit it ? size/dimensions/bolt patterns etc.... I am talking direct replacement drop in not some cobbled up make it work kinda thing unless it would be minimal, we could all probably do some modification of sorts but I wouldn't do that to a nice new tractor - Kubota might be able to advise on that and some possibilities so it might broaden your ability to find something used

Tried them too. They got nothing. But keep suggestions coming. Maybe someone will mention on I haven't tried yet and don't have much internet prescense

Kubota is limited help due to emissions

They won't let me drop in a tier 2. Which are a grand or so cheaper. A teir 4 gets too complex. Electronic throttle, common rail or direct injection, different sensors (wiring harness) etc.

As to tractors, this engine was used in the L5240, l5740, m59, m5640su, and the mx5100

Was used in some bobcat skid loader and excavators too.

But I'm not searching for a "mx5100" engine.

Searching for a "v2403-m-t" engine.

And there just ain't much out there.

Still looking though. Pushing $8k for an engine....I wouldn't be opposed to buying a whole tractor, say a 2wd mx5100 with no loader and stick shift. 800-1000 hrs like my tractor has I would think would bring value down to reasonable.
