Channel surfing the other day I came across that old TV Western "Wanted Dead or Alive" starring Steve McQueen. Had not seen that thing in ages! Thinking about all the old westerns that were so popular back then I did a quick search to remind myself of some of these shows and was amazed at just how many there were. Wikipedia listed nearly 200 shows! It looks like with a quick scan that most of these shows were aired in the 1950x and 1960s. There's a few on the the list that I've never heard of but most I had.

I only wish they could take off a lot of the crap that's on television these days and bring back some of these golden oldies.

Personally I'd have to put Gunsmoke near the top of the list of my personal favorites. Anyone else have a favorite?

A lot of "Cowboys and Indians" were being played back in the early 50's

One of my favorites growing up was Sky King. Although on reflection it would make a lot more sense if instead of clubbing the bad guy and running away, picking up their gun and ventilating them would be more prudent, but then the episodes would only be about seven minutes.
Cimarron Strip was also a favorite, due in large part to the very fetching Miss Coopersmith.
Deadwood is just delightfully profane thanks to the post-Minder Ian McShane.

Can there be any doubt which is the majority favorite? Longest run origionally, longest re-run and still on daily(on more than one network). IMO Ken Curtis was/is more intertaining than James Arness so I expecially injoyed episodes that featured him. A little triva for some that might be unaware,Ken was an accomplished singer that could masterfully handle anything from campfire ballads to opera.
