You favorite old-time TV Western?

And I still watch Gunsmoke nearly every day, even though I'm pretty sure I've seen ever episode ever filmed at least 3 to 6 times.:laughing: In fact, it'll be coming on in less than 30 minutes from now.

Can there be any doubt which is the majority favorite? Longest run origionally,longest re-run and still on daily(on more than one network). IMO Ken Curtis was/is more intertaining than James Arness so I expecially injoyed episodes that featured him. A little triva for some that might be unaware,Ken was an accomplished singer that could masterfully handle anything from campfire ballads to opera.

There were so many in the 50's, it's hard to pick a favorite one. . .but, you are right "Gunsmoke" has to tip the scale.

I've been watching Have Gun Will Travel, Gunsmoke, and the Lone Ranger on Youtube... I wasn't around to watch them much the first time. As somebody said they were all good, but watching the LR now I realize how bad some of the acting was back then.
When I was a kid I used to love "The Wild, Wild, West; watching reruns in a motel some years ago made me realize how corny THAT show was.
In the seventies we used to enjoy "Alias Smith and Jones", until one of the stars died.

Yep, I still watch it pretty much every evening at/near my bedtime, going to sleep watching something from my younger days seems soothing to me.

Gunsmoke--the old half-hour black-and-white episodes. The later one-hour color episodes were not as tightly written and seems sluggish compared to the older episodes.

When I was a kid I used to love "The Wild, Wild, West; watching reruns in a motel some years ago made me realize how corny THAT show was.

Wild Wild West was unique in a lot of ways. Kind of like James Bond Out West. Later on there was The Adventures of Briscoe County, Jr.


Pete Duel. The replacement was OK, but the show changed too much.

Used to like 'Red Ryder' Robert Blake played the indian kid sidekick "Little Beaver"...

Sky King always took out the bad guy(s) with a single karate chop to the back of the neck...

Funny you bring this fact up. . .somehow the black/white episodes were a lot better. . .maybe because I was older when "color" made its way onto the screen.

Maverick was a great one also. Ah he$$, they were all good!
