We have all been exposed to the TV shows that have for the most part formed our ideas of what life was like back then but...
...Who can imagine what life was really like back when the western's we're talking about were depicted??

Realize...there was no refrigeration, running water, no sanitary facilities, no deodorant, no coin laundries etc., etc....The streets were full of horse and other manures...

simple infections from things like wood splinters could end up killing you because there were no antibiotics...sure there some dentists but a lot of people died from tooth infections...likely many more people died young because of health etc. issues than bullets or hangings...but that is what's always been depicted...

Very true... watching shows where people died of disease, hypothermia, poisonous things isn't as exciting.

My earliest memory is pretending to be Roy Rogers. He could get knocked off his horse and engage in a fist fight and never loose his hat. That was "James Bond suave" on a horse. But when I got older I loved The Cimarron Strip. That Dulce was a real charmer.

Thank you Moss... I noticed Mark wasn't in the killing scenes. Always a last resort but he got the job done and spun his rifle too!

Rifleman and Bonanza. We did not get many stations back in the day.

Not being in the USA we were limited, trying to think of what we got:
Bonanza, Big Valley, Rawhide, Lone Ranger, Gunsmoke, F Troop (???), Roy Rogers, Gene Autry.
There are a few mentioned that I haven't heard of and I have probably missed a few too.

Many of my favorites as a kid, I don't care for that much now, Gene Autry, The Rifleman (Chuck Connors has an insane look to him), Roy Rogers, I really hate Bonanza now but watched it every week along with Gunsmoke. I loved Wild, Wild West as a kid but it is really hokie now. Maverick, Tales of Wells Fargo, Death Valley Days, Wanted Dead or Alive is still good to watch today and of course any John Wayne movie I can watch 100 times.
