I知 the original owner of my 3016 with 225 hours. I was experiencing starts that took a few more cranks about 2 weeks ago. That turned into no start, lots of cranking but it wouldn稚 fire. I cleaned the pleated fuel filter and it started.
I just replaced the filter with new, changed the oil, and changed both the inner and outer air filters. It started like it used to yesterday multiple times and I ran it for about 2 hours yesterday. Parked it in the grass overnight, rained a bit. Just went to start it to put it away tonight and lots of cranking and white smoke, but t won稚 start again.
There痴 what looks to be a silver filter inline after the pleated fuel filter. The book is terrible, and I don稚 see any mention of 2 fuel filters.
Anyone have any ideas? It痴 been extremely reliable up until now. Thanks in advance.

Not sure, but I think most of the Mahindra's have 2 fuel filters. Mine does. A pleated paper one, and then another down the fuel line, with a sensor for water in the fuel, and a drain for water accumulation. If you follow your fuel line from the tank all the way to the fuel rails, you should find the 2nd filter (if you have one) Mine is on the opposite side of the engine from the 1st one.

I'm certainly not a diesel expert, but isn't the white smoke indicative of water in the line?

If you don't find a 2nd fuel filter, you might try bleeding the fuel line right before the fuel rails to get rid of air/water. If all else fails, I'd drain the tank, lines, everything, and refuel with fuel you know to be good.

Good luck! And let us know what the cause actually is, when you find it.

The silver thing you see is the lift pump. Check the resistance on your glow plugs. Sounds like they are failing or failed. Know issue for plugs to be energized all the time from feedback to glow controller. A diode will correct the issue.

Thanks for the replies. I found a thread discussing the voltage feedback issue and need for a diode after I posted this. Hopefully I get some time to look into this this week.

White smoke on a diesel usually points to unburnt fuel. One may get a puff at start up. A steadier amount could also point to faulty injectors. A head gasket seeping on a water jacket can also cause white smoke but it would be a rather steady state of smoke stream

I have this tractor. I was going up hill with a stem attached and the thing just quit as if it ran out of fuel. With half a tank left, It wasn't that. I bled both the injectors and fuel filter area and this problem has not resurfaced. You may have an air entrainment somewhere. Sometimes it takes a while to clear. Tractor could be running perfectly fine then it happens again.
