I love Amazon. The $99 a year for prime is totally worth it for me. The prices are always better. I am always streaming Amazon music when working outside. Currently watching House M.D. on Amazon video. Everything I order comes when it says. Once I ordered 2 Browning game cameras. Only one showed up, called Amazon, they let me keep that one, and sent me two more. That would not happen anywhere else. I only have good things to say about them.

Yep, it's also easy to make a link to there that is fairly permanent versus a link to an eBay ad or a manufacturer's website that goes away in a month or a week.
Also, if you think that eBay and PayPal DON'T stick it to small businesses, you would be wrong.

We used to deal a lot with eBay with our now closed small business. eBay and PayPal fees have steadily increasing for years. It’s gotten about too high to deal with. And I assure you that there’s no such thing as free shipping. You can pay it as a additional cost. You can pay it with a yearly membership. You can pay it with an increased product price. Using 2 at the same time isn’t uncommon. The one thing you do have going for you is online businesses have lower overhead.

Agreed that the amazon customer service is great. Amazon didn’t become the largest retailer in the world by dumb luck. Times change and you have to change with them or go under.

I've never bought through amazon. I have no intention to.
They don't make anything. Why deal with a middle man?
Folks who actually MAKE STUFF are worth knowing. The others? Ahh, I'll say no more.

Where do you not deal with a middle man? Did you fly to Japan and show up at the Kubota factory to buy a tractor. Do you show up to the vehicle factory where that is? When you need a tool do you go to the factory or some place that’s at least the middle man? I could go on longer but I think the point is clear.

I didn't write that I don't deal with resellers aka middle men, but I did express a preference NOT to. Amazon allows no discrimination or options.

I remind myself. Who will I miss when they are gone? The local machine shop (and quality fastener and steel outlet),
Or WalMart? hmmm... We ran one of those places out of town by not buying enough crap. I think it was Loews.

Good riddance!

Spend your money how you want. I vote with my wallet!

Are you familiar with the term "skim",, You know, a little off a lot? It's still a lot.
Justify it how you may. You are a sucker for cheating the maker their fair due, and a sucker for paying more for the same item from a different source.

Oh, but the customer service is so good!

Got to love the idea.

;-)

Can we ease up with the references to the shopping site named after a South American river? Jeff's already a multi-billionaire and he doesn't need your money. The little guys do. I know a lot of times when you buy from there, it's a little guy seller, but that isn't always true and even when it is, Jeff still gets his cut.

I just find it annoying that so many threads point people there for one thing or another that is almost always available from other sites.

Just say No to JeffCo.

K?

:cool2:

No.

Far easier to point someone to a product there than somehow coming up with the thousand links to point to everyone's local places. The person doing the buying has the choice to buy wherever they want and can use the AMAZON reference to understand what they are looking for.

I think we need a "safe space" thread.

Going to buy a bunch of stuff today from Amazon. Love it. The closest town of 4,000 is 25 miles from me. Unless I call, I am not even sure I can get what I want until I get there. So three gallons of gas to make the trip and an hour and half of wasted time, not counting the time on the phone.

I figure it costs me about $.30/mile for fuel, oil and wear and tear on a vehicle. So that 50 mile trip is $15.00. If I avoid only one trip into town every month, that adds up to $180. And I normally get a better or equal price on Amazon. It would be stupid for me not to use on-line retailers.
