Oil & Fuel WHAT HAPPENS TO HYDRAULIC OIL?

/ WHAT HAPPENS TO HYDRAULIC OIL? #11
Speak to me of costs - almost 17 gallons of hydraulic fluid for a change in my M6040. I take all used oil - engine, gear, hydraulic in to the Kubota dealer - the service dept has a waste oil furnace.

By-the-way - Gene, what sort of tractor do you have that recommends hydraulic oil change at 300 hours. My M6040 says every 600 hours.
My L3301 suggests every 400 hours... which is coming up soon.

For the used oil check your county. We have a recycling program funded by some tax or the other. They accept hazardous chemicals at no charge.

I am kind of surprised that no one is filtering it and adding it to there fuel tank, or a percentage of it, and burning it in there tractors, for disposal, many trucking companies have done this for years,

some people use (transmission oil) to add to there fuel for improved lubrication on the injection pump, since they changed the formulation of diesel.

My MF has around 1100 hours on it. I bought it used at around 500 hours and never got around to changing the hydraulic/gear oil. The tractor has no shed and I don't think it had one at it's first home either. Now the wet brakes are squeeling. I don't know whether the oil thinned, was diluted with water and wore out the friction material or what. I plan to change the oil this week. If I have to do a brake job, it means removing the axle and that's a relatively heavy tractor. I wish I'd changed the oil.

They have to suggest changes on how they think the machine is used.

If you try doing that with anything that has and after treatment system, get ready for a bunch of problems and big repair bills.
The only additives you should use in the fuel system is one that s approved for use with after treatment systems.

I spent too much money to take a chance on wrecking my engine just to save a couple of bucks, but that's just my opinion.

Fear of the unknown,,,

apprehension....
"anxiety or fear that something bad or unpleasant will happen."

Some say that today's diesel fuels "ruin injectors and wear out engines" .

You just can't win, and there is a penalty for trying.

Well, older engines were called oilers for a reason, but I would not be putting old oils in a new direct injected system...I was looking at an old inter, and it kind of turned me off cause the guys was scrounging oil from everywhere and using it in the tractor, that is fine, except I did not like the look of the way he was doing it and how much rubbish would be going into the tank and sitting at the bottom and clogging filters, you know, old engine oils with all those nice fine shavings esp from new engine oil changes....

If it is filtered properly......

I let mine sit for a week or two, and then just draw oil off the top, before mixing it with some diesel and filtering it.

The "bottom oil" goes to re-cycle.
