May You Live in Interesting Times.....

Choice is a big factor..... if someone is financially secure, has decided to RV full-time, after a year or 2 of that, they might decide they want to do a gig like camperforce, maybe just to pass the time......

I have an aunt, who is a retired Canadian schoolteacher. Up here, those full time teaching positions are highly coveted, firstly for the secure and relatively good pay, and great pensions. No kids, she used to take long sabbaticals, and she and her husband traveled a lot. He's a US citizen, so one Winter in the southern US, he (legally) took a gig job - he's a jack of all trades - that one was doing wiring retrofits on Apache choppers.

Sometimes people want to work, even if they don't need the money.

Grapes of Wrath stories like the Wired article.... how many weeks do you have to work for Camperforce to cover your travel costs, if you've driven an RV 500 miles to get there ?

Lots of factors at play here; as big as Amazon is, it is just one of them.......

Rgds, D.

Many people that don't have to work are the best workers.

The ones mired in debt, become disalusioned and less than motivated workers when they realize they can't ever dig themselves out.

I've seen a lot of Amazon commercials lately that are trying to remind people that over 50% of Amazon's suppliers are small businesses.

I like dealing with small businesses. They answer their phone and the guy that answers knows what you are talking about. To farm out their product to AMAZON is just a giant step backwards, if you ask me. I just hung up on some Robocall, not even giving it time to let me know what it is about. I'm tired of BIG business and their ****** and one size fits all (or most, and that's all they care about) , style of customer service.

That could get me started on a whole 'nother rant about Auto Attendants and IVR (Integrated Voice Response) systems for answering calls instead of hiring people to do it.

Thanks for the reminder, Don. I haven't yet tried her EVOO. Maybe I'll look into that tonight when I get home.

Do you have any idea how much one employee actually costs a company per year compared to an automated phone system?
