Actually, different link to different actual on the same subject. I've never heard of the "Fight to 15" before....

Amazon to raise minimum wage to $15 for U.S. employees
The increased raise comes at a time when the "Fight for Fifteen" movement — a union-led push for a $15 minimum wage — has been gaining traction in cities across the country. The new minimum wage will benefit more than 250,000 employees in the U.S., as well as over 100,000 seasonal employees who will be hired at Amazon sites across the country this holiday, the company said in a statement. "We will be working to gain Congressional support for an increase in the federal minimum wage.

Does the qualified long term employee making 15 now, get automatically bumped up to 20, let's say?

Times (and minimum wage arguments) change, but facts about the economics of the minimum wage persist. Mr. Milton Friedman on the minimum wage laws.

Very doubtful. My wife works at Costco and after a year she got her second raise based on hours worked. At nearly the same time, Costco revamped the pay schedule that brought new hires to her level. She got no additional pay to offset this.

At that same time Costco changed the maximum pay level, so she will eventually transition to that new maximum after around 5 years of incremental raises that are based on cumulative hours worked.

They do not do merit based raises. Personally, I prefer merit raises over giving raises just because your employee is still sucking air.

Why Costco is a desired work place is because after around 5 to 6 years of collecting hours, you get to full rate of just over $23 an hour, great benefits that cost you very little, 401K with match to 6%, company stock rewards, biannual bonuses and paid vacation.

You aren't going to get rich or buy that house on the beach working there, but you'll survive and make enough to live a respectfully meager life if you can handle the starting pay rate. It's better than a lot if unskilled options out there.

No wonder there are so many happy faces on the corporate work floor.

Maybe it should be like China (Google Apple Working Conditions) where menial work gets menial pay and the workers live in the factory.

Many, many Ontario companies have let people go since the minimum wage laws came in and the remaining workers have to work harder and longer.

To the extent that they want to change their own pay scales, good for them. They must in a financial position to support it.

But, this looks to be a calculated maneuver just as their sales tax lobbying was. That they then want to pay congress to pass laws to force their competitors to also increase their respective pay and thus make them less competitive makes them a bad actor. Though to a lesser degree, IMO, than those congress critters who will gleefully take their money in exchange for weakening their competition.

^^ They want to drive the independent small businesses out of the market. Another reason to avoid JeffCo.
