I forget who I was talking to a couple weeks back about the HF flat rope lights, but I really tried to get my camera to show what my eyes are seeing... and I think I nailed it!

Like I was explaining before, it's just enough light to let you just see the gravel, chairs, dogs or whatever else might try to kill you while getting hammered around a fire.

I'm not "getting" it. That's a solution looking for a problem kind of thing to me. You put the socket on the lug not, then you hit the air with one hand while the other hand loosely lets the impact socket glide under it.

What's the reason that I would want or need this spinning sleeved extension thing?

From my perspective, I don't see a bit of value added to the job by having this.

Kind of like I figured without even seeing the tool to begin with. Sort of like a screw starter to help guide and stabilize.

Except in this case your impact socket and your impact are already guided, centered and stabilized by the nut your on. Your loose hand is there to gather the lug not and impact socket as it comes off. With that tool, your car more likely to not gather or control that lug not and far more likely to allow that lug nut to go out of control and do damage to the wheels finish.

The thing about HF is that they sell tools for all types of people and purposes, even if many people can't find a purpose for them. I walk by lots of stuff at HF that other people are gobbling up. I don't use fancy wheels, so I'm not concerned about dinging them. I still use a a 4 way cross lug wrench most of the time. I was in AutoZone the other day and saw some kind of specialty ceramic coated lug nut sockets that supposedly won't ding fancy wheels. I suppose if I paid $500 for each wheel, I might be all over one of those.

I imagine HF feels they'll sell a bunch of these or they never would have picked up the item. And since they're opening 'on average 3 stores a day' across the country, I'll assume they have a fairly good handle on their market.
