John Deere 4500
I have a John Deere 4500 with 4th & 5th SCV kit.

I recently picked up a piece of equipment that has a cylinder with a single hose to extend it and springs to return it. Will this work with the JD SCV that I have which is expecting two hoses?

I could see how the SCV could be built to allow the springs to pull the cylinder down and push fluid back down the line, but I don't know if the valves are designed to allow that or not. I'd hate to pressurize the cylinder and then get things stuck because there is no return hose to force it the other direction.

Thanks.

If you have a silinder with 2 hoses it is called a double acting silinder.
With 1 hose it is called a single acting silinder.
By using the scv 1 hose gets the oil and the other 1 automatic become the return for that silinder.
All that will happen is your scv will pressurize a coupler that has no hose in it.
Some scv spools can be converted to a single acting spool by just opening a screw on that valve .

If your one of your SCV's has a float position, use that SCV you can raise with pressure then go into the float mode to allow the cylinder to be free to extend and retract as needed.
If none of your SCV's have a float detent you can still use it, it will extend fine to retract you will move your control the other way which will allow the cylinder to retract, but when you center your control it will lock the cylinder position at that point.
