What did you do at work today?

Brought the 4630 with me so I can take it to get new tires, bad day Saturday bushhogging and a stick. The tires are pretty tired anyway, they are original from 1993, they only have 1,088 hours but they are weather cracked. Firestone’s here we come.

Worked on a torque tube for a friends super A. The holes needed threaded inserts to get them back to 5/8-11. Bought two and had to make two. Two I made are 1 1/8-12 and 1-12 outside thread, held in with an 1/8” roll pin.

Nothing out of this world but enough I am still doing it after 30 years. 2Lane are you edge flying narrow strips and clamping them together?

I'm not familiar with the term "edge flying", but basically what I am doing is taking boards of various thickness...White Oak, Pecan, Walnut and Maple and cutting them into strips 1 and 1/2 inches wide and about 16 inches long, turning them up on edge and gluing them together until I have a blank about 12 inches wide. I run them through the planer, cut the ends off, round off the corners, round over the top edge, rout a grove in the bottom edge of each end as a finger hold, and sand the heck out of them. I wet them down to raise the grain and sand; do this a couple of times and rub them down good with organic coconut oil.

I use Tightbond waterproof and non toxic glue. They actually look pretty good...finished them up this afternoon. I made one for a friend a few months back, and while I was setting up, I made a couple more, and they went over really well, so I thought what the heck, let's see if I can sell some. Lotta work, though, so If I can't get $30 or $40 bucks for them, I'll give them away as Christmas presents.

Sadly, I sat behind my desk today doing a monthly expense report but did enjoy the boats on the water enjoying a beautiful calm sunny day on the Hood Canal. We have a few more sunny days in front of us this weekend so tomorrow I hope to strap on my new to me box blade and take it for a spin!
