Mother in law myth

Lucky for me... Mom has always been kind with a big heart... but she had no compunction saying the lady was fat...

If someone visits... she will ask them a dozen times in a 20 minutes if she can get them something... not having remembered she had already asked.
Alzheimer's seems to exaggerate your personality. If you were nice you become nicer, if not so nice....

Yep... exactly what I have found.

My father had lewy body dementia. In the latter stage, he had forgotten quite a bit, but remembered flying B-17s so i'd take him out to the back deck to sit in the sun. Fire up the the RC helicopter and drone. He really got a kick out of watching me fly them around. The heli was an older model and didn't have much of a brain so was a handful to fly, but the drone was very small and easy to fly and i'd let him take it for a bit of a spin. Each time he be laughing and tell me, 'it sure didn't handle like a B-17'. Good times.

We have often wondered how it would be if it was my FIL who had dementia instead of MIL. He was a super person but very strong willed. A my way or the highway type whereas MIL has always been very passive.

A friend was relieved when his dad finally passed. Among other things, he got his wife hemmed up in the corner and hit her. It was over her hiding his car keys and ended up being about her supposedly cheating on him.

Wife's grandpa saw germans (ww2) running through the house and doing various bad things, one example was kidnapping a little girl. He decided it wasn't worth screwing with since they never bothered him.

My grandpa thought a klansman or something of that nature was coming in his room to mess with him at night. Best grandma could figure it was a black girl nurse that had a high hairdo with her white cap on top coming to check him out and take care of him.

Many years ago I had a television repair service call in an apartment. The girl who let me in whispered "My parents are in the living room, Dad has dementia so pay no attention to him".
So I worked on the console TV, got it working then made adjustments. The whole time Dad was glaring at me. When I was finished Mom and daughter was saying picture was fantastic...then daughter says "Well Dad, what do you think?"
Dad says as he's still glaring at me..."I think we ought to beat the **** out of him!".

I get pulled up on it a lot but it stems back to my university days when we were judged and assessed on spelling from the Oxford Dictionary, most spell it program, I am just stubborn.
As an aside I know the downside of dementia, it got my Father in the end but he just accused people of stealing things that he never had or had given away years earlier, he often called me by my brothers name and could never remember my wifes name although we have been married for 35 years.
My fear now is what has been released from Mars and when will it arrive?

Lost my Dad to Alzheimers 25 years ago. He would talk to me about me. Three of us kids. I was bad cop. When we had to put him an Alzheimers branch of the local resthome I had to do it. Dad couldn't recognize his own face in a mirror but he never forgot what Richard (me) did to him.

Prayers with ya Aussie.
