I have a MF 1635 with about 1200 hours. I was mowing yesterday when the engine slowed down and stopped. I tried to restart it and it turned really hard. So the first thing I did was pull the dip stick . You guessed it, no oil. Now the panic sets in. I let it set over night and changed the filter and drained only about a quart of old oil. New filter and 5 1/2 qts of new oil and it started up. No knocking or other unusual noise. Wow was I lucky. I have had this tractor for about ten years and never had to add any oil other than routine oil changes. I poured the old oil thru a paint strainer and I didn t see any metal flakes. To lose that much oil without any indication puzzles me. I did check the sight glass in the rear end and the glass is full. It has always been at the half way level where it should be. Is it possible for engine oil to get into the transmission and hydraulic system? Is there any mechanical connection between the two? Thanks for any advice.
