Not sure why the prices were so close. I was told the Massey folks don’t dicker at all. Plus we decided to use the financing so they don’t have the wiggle room to play with I suspect.

No I have never dealt with them. Although my neighbor with the 1647 sings their praises. Guess I’ll be finding out shortly.

The one thing I don't care for is the price of parts and availability on the Massey, I find with Massey that I'm stuck with buying parts from the dealer and Watermans parts prices are higher than anywhere else, I have never bought any kind of equipment that I couldn't easily find and buy parts for online. My brother has a few Deere's and I find parts to be cheaper and I have more internet options for purchases..

I'm looking at buying a new tractor in the spring and price and availability of parts will be a major factor in my decision making process.

I love my little Massey but I gravitate towards John Deere, I was brought up running Deere's and if they have something with the specs I need I will go green. I think resale is better as well, not that it's important for everyone but it is to me.

Thank you for the responses! I’ve started the process to purchase the Massey Ferguson 1742! If all goes well we should take delivery in a week or so!

Massey makes great products. Remember, the underdog always has to try harder. John Deere rests on their name, and their quality shows.

I hear you. I have the same frustration with Stihl equipment. Very difficult if not impossible to find any online parts for them and when you do you're just dealing with a dealer hungry enough to take online orders. I'll most likely replace wear parts like bucket edges etc. with generic stuff. I did with my New Holland tractors, just have to find the fit. The Massey should lead a simple life here. It will be just moving rocks and trees, mowing and plowing snow, maybe drilling some post holes etc. It will be under cover in a barn when not in use and like my other equipment it will be well cared for. I still run one of my first Stihl chain saws I bought over 35 years ago!
