Hauling firewood on a landscape utility trailer

You will need 7 hours each way at your 10mph :D

I meant to say 10mpg although I could haul more than 1 cord so that would sorta off set the cost. I still wouldn’t do it.

You travel 70mi one way for a single cord of wood? Gesus i would be burning oil if i had to do that.

I probably said this at some point but I'm not going back to check.

This tree was on a property that I was going to anyway, with or without the wood.

Same here, I have property 60 miles away that I go to regularly for general upkeep, fixing fences, cleanup up fallen trees etc. etc. So to throw the wood that I needed to clear anyway into my otherwise mostly empty truck to burn at home is a no brainer.

My concern with carrying wood this far is transfer of disease. Since you know the source and it did not die from oak wilt or some other fungus, your trees at home should be safe.

I was a little concerned about this as well. But in the end after some checking, seemed like there really wasn't much risk, but honestly who knows.

I seriously doubt there is a valid concern at 70 miles, the wind can blow that far in short order. In the age of constant air travel and worldwide shipping, hauling firewood an hour away is lint in comparison.

There are firewood transport limitations in the Northeast that could come into play at that distance depending on the origin and destination.

Female Gypsy moths do not fly so 70 mi is a long distance for them.

Some of the smallest lint is the most heavily regulated.

In CT you need a permit to transport firewood across state lines. Supposedly the concern is the emerald ash borer. They realize most people cannot tell ash trees from other trees so they regulate all hardwood. We post these signs on all highways that cross into NY, MA and RI.
