Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

You could play Harbor freight lotto and order it on-line. It'll cost you an extra $100 for shipping but they have it listed so it seams like they have some in stock. Of course you can't open it first and see how many dents it has before leaving the store.

Update.

Mistakes were made!

Regional manager called me, the store supervisor I spoke to accidentally looked at the part number in the system for the original Series 1 72" box, the Series 2 part number is not being discontinued and it is readily available.

As a matter of fact, he said that the truck arriving today will have the red 72" Series 2 chest on it, and it will be unloaded tomorrow morning.

So suddenly, my well thought out plan is completely back on track. I'm thinking Sunday I will go get the pieces.

I may skip getting the 56" top chest for a month or 2 and see if a coupon appears. I'd prefer to do the same with the 2 side add on pieces, but I'm thinking that I'll need them right away to get my tools into the boxes and off of benches, shelves and hanging from hooks....

Good news... personally I would prefer two 56ers rather than one behemoth for flexibility reasons but I don’t want to burst your bubble.

As others have said open it up and check it for dents. Bought a HF smaller one for my son for Xmas last year, two months prior on best sale price, and didn’t check it as advised.

He put it together and was really happy and said it had a big dent it though. He didn’t really care but it made me mad.

The dent thing will not matter much to me unless it's in the front where the drawers are. If that's the case, I'll take it back and swap it.

The 72" comes in a wooden crate, so it should be more safe than the smaller boxes that are packed in cardboard.

Yeah his dent was in the rear so he did mind. I’m ****.

Good to hear on the crate packing. I know we will see pics soon!

Okay...

Here are the optional build out options as I see it. Consider us to be using the red center boxes and blue add on side boxes for all configurations to stay with my patriotic color theme and to work with the guy who will airbrush the boxes to match my Jeep flag...

Now, looking at this, cubic inches of storage per dollar spent.... a twin 44" lower/upper with one 16" add on cabinet is a clear winner. Dang you DragonEggs! Why are you making me look at this from different angles!?!?!?

72” Base $1100 ($1000 with Coupon) 29,500 CU/IN, 29.5 CU/IN Per Dollar.
56” Base $750 21,500 CU/IN, 28.66 CU/IN Per Dollar.
56” Top $470 13,200 CU/IN, 28.09 CU/IN Per Dollar.
44” Base $480 ($429 with Coupon) 14,000 CU/IN, 32.55 CU/IN Per Dollar.
44” Top $300 ($270 with coupon) 11,700 CU/IN, 43.33 CU/IN Per Dollar.
16” End Locker $200 16,000 CU/IN, 80 CU/IN Per Dollar.
14.5” End Cabinet $200 4,500 CU/IN, 22.5 CU/IN Per Dollar.

Original Plan: 102.5” Total Width.
63,200 cubic inches.
31.89 CU/IN per dollar.
72” Base $1,000, 56” top $470, 16” End $200 and 14.5” end $200 = $1870, $1982.20 with tax.

The Dragon Eggs Option 1 : 128” Total Width.
72,200 cubic inches.
31.39 CU/IN per dollar.
2x 56” Bases ($1,500), 1x 56” Top $470 and 16” End Locker $200 = $2170 or $2,300.20 taxed.

Option 2: 116” Total Width.
64,700 Cubic Inches.
32.99 CU/IN per dollar.
56” Base $750, 44” Base $430, 56” Top $470 and 16” end locker $200 = $1850 or $1,961 taxed.

Option 3: 118.5” Total Width.
60,200 cubic inches.
37.13 CU/IN per dollar.
2 x 44” Bases $860, 1 x 44” Top $270, 16” end cabinet $200 and 14.5 End locker $200.
$1,530 or $1621 taxed.

Option 4 (The Smartest money spent???): 104” Total Width.
67,400 cubic inches.
39.74 CU/IN per dollar.
2 x 44” Bases $860, 2 x 44” Top $540 and 16” End cabinet $200.
$1,600 or $1696 taxed.

When you first spoke with her this morning and were told they were discontinued, it's a good thing she couldn't locate one in stock at another store 100 miles away. If you're like me, in your current enthusiasm you probably would already have driven there to buy the last one by the time she called back!

Yeah, really! What if she said it's discontinued but I found one 2 hours away... The last one ever! Then I go get it only to later realize that she found the last remaining series 1 box and idiot me bought the non updated one! That would chap my behind parts pretty good.

I'm really screwed up in the head now because of that jerk Dragon Eggs. Now I'm really reconsidering all life choices and wondering if the double stack of 44" boxes is really the best way to go.

Now I'm all screwed up in the head. I mean more so than normal....

Just go for a triple and be done with it.

You guys need an intervention! I doubt many full time mechanics need that many tool cabinets.
