What the heck is making these holes?

This is starting to take on a life of its own. Maybe the powers to be should consider creating a university course on the cause of holes. We should specialize in which type of hole; sink holes, pot holes, manhole covers (personhole covers) or arseholes. Oh by the way. Tim Hortons doughnuts don't have holes; they have Tim Bits. I hope the "whole" world has a good day.

This post couldn't have been close enough to Halloween to be an April Fools type thing, could it? I mean, most of us are pretty worldly and yet that hole looks like nothing any of us has ever seen. Maybe something downunder could make it but not around here.

They don't look like fresh holes to me. What it could be is that something such as a squirrel or rat has enlarged them, making them more noticeable. One of those pics appears to have a portion of a softwood cone next to it.

I could accept that a small animal with repeated pass throughs could wear the edges smooth.
