I have one of those overhead console transmitters in my 08 Sierra.

I have used it sucessfully with my Chamberlain Jackshaft Opener.

It HAS provision for entering Dip switch Data for older openers.

I am trying to get it to work with a 318MHZ Receiver. 8 Dip switches, but without luck.

How does the Universal Remote know what frequency to transmit on? Will it do 318 MHZ? I have 8 Dip Switches, it accepts up to 12, do you need to enter 0s to make up the 12?

Thanks in Advance.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, my console does not have the capability to listen to an existing transmitter and duplicate that signal. I'm surprised how little information is on the web. The 800 number for lear is no longer in service but directs yo to the web site learcar2u.com, but only comes up with the word "page" or something like that.

As usual, the instructions (from GM)are somewhat poor. I'm not complaining as I have tried many times to write technical instructions and it's very hard!

One part of if was cryptic and said to hold a button (to which you wish the function programmed) for up to 55 seconds, then release when the door works. I could not understand this. MAYBE, it's frequency hopping. That would make perfect sense for that unknown time parameter.

I had no luck programming the home link in my GM cars to my old garage door opener. Instead, I bought a cheap universal garage door opener from Lowes or Menards, hooked that to the garage door wires at the push button on the wall, and programmed that to my car. Works like a champ. Less than $25.00.

I hate being defeated. Was your opener a DIP switch programmed unit? What make?

As usual, this was supposed to be a small part of a larger project, and now I'm spending all this time on this little part.

It's actually funny, because apparently you need a (presumably cross band) repeater to operate the latest Chamberlain manufactured openers with that Universal Remote.

My garage door opener is a 30+ year old Sears unit with DIP switches. It's pre-rolling code. The three remotes we had were slowly failing, and, we wanted to be able to use the home link in the Impala.

I purchased a Chamberlain 955D universal remote control. It has a receiver and one remote control. Google "Chamberlain 955D" and you'll get plenty of hits and prices.

I removed the two wire garage door opener button on the wall in the garage and replaced it with the 955D receiver. Then I followed the home link instructions in the Impala's owner's manual, and the instructions that came with the 955D, and some on-line videos and was able to capture it with the buttons on the overhead console in the Impala.

As noted in the complaints in the reviews, the range is not that good. I connected a 20' piece of wire to the little wire antenna on the 955D and stapled it across the header of my garage door. Problem solved. About a 30' range in front of the closed door with the Impala.

We keep the remote that came with the 955D in the house by the back door and that works fine as well.

Hope that helps. It's a $30 test.

Thanks! What a difficult thing to research. Googling it gets you web sites of beautiful people, their beautiful children and their beautiful homes, and how this product can make you happier and safer, but no technical data.

I finally found a list for newer equipment that had thousands of listings. Everything from 27 MHZ to a Gig, but absolutely nothing in 318 MHZ. That tells me something.

So despite having brand new Linear Receivers, I wanted to use, I guess I will buy the mentioned receiver. At least I know that works.

EDIT: I think that 955D kit is a repeater. I need some dry contacts for a security application. Basically, a method of bypassing my various entrance security systems, on me entering.

Ours has been installed for about 3-4 years now. Still works. So I'm at about $8.75 per year.
