I wish you guys maybe girls or both would stop hoarding up these shot capsules, 6 years ago when I started buying these for my 45 colt they was all over the place and cheap. Few weeks ago after a couple days of constant web searching, I bought half dozen boxes from (Graf and Sons) then the other day they sent me a review and buy with no shipping cost order to my email, well I thought since these are so hard to find I'll order a half dozen more, so clicked on the link to reorder and to my surprise, OUT OF STOCK, AGAIN, there goes my free shipping incentive................. Anyone know if there's a powder recipe for Trail Boss powder to reload 20g shotguns 2-3/4 shells, currently using Unique powder to use in skeet shooting? I use the Trail Boss it in my 45 colt cowboy loads, but my son has bought a Lee re-loader and I have quite a bit of it on hand.

This is what I found, 16 Ga brass shells using Trail Boss. Didn't turn up anything in 20 ga.

So, I picked up a TC Compass .223, and now I'm poking around shopping dies and components for .223. I will be getting the Lee case length gauge and shell holder for trimming. Trying to decide between Hornady American or Lee 2 die sets (Full length); leaning towards Hornady. but haven't ordered yet. I have CFE223 and Varget in stock, but will try to save it for .270. What cheap way do yall remove military primer crimps?

Dies: Full length; Hornady or Lee
Trimming: Lee case length gauge/holder
Powder: CFE223/Varget
Primers: probably CCI
Bullets: Speer 55gr SP, Hornady 62 HPBT
Military Crimp removal, dont know
Brass: Federal 223, with crimp

RCBS military crimp remover, primer pocket swager for the press or a primer pocket reamer chucked up in a drill.

I use the press type swager, then check it with the Lyman hand held reamer

I have RCBS unit and it works but is slow. As I have a couple of thousand cases to do, I got the Dillon unit. More money but much faster and easier to use.

With .223 bullets specifically or projectiles in general, is the Cantalure's only purpose a place to crimp? For instance, Everglades has 55 gr FMJ with or without cantalure. Any reason to choose on over the other?

As far as I know the only purpose of a canellure (there is no t :) ) is to crimp the mouth of the case against to help prevent setback of the bullet into the case. Depending on the crimp die some accomplish this other ways, look at the Lee "factory crimp die" Setback can occur with heavy recoil, and of course if the bullets set back into the case, this will increase chamber pressures and can make the round totally unsafe.

The cannelure is to provide an area where you can apply a taper crimp without distorting the bullet. You should always crimp cartridges intended for semi-autos.

Since the majority of my .223 shooting is with semi-autos, I mostly reload with cannelured bullets, but I also keep a small stock of non-cannelured bullets that I can load with a slight taper crimp to fire in my bolt action. It may just be me, but I think I'm getting tighter groups in the bolt action with standard bullets.

There's nothing wrong with using cannelured bullets in a bolt action as long as you're getting shot groups that satisfy you.
