Who has Snow?

We got about 6" Friday and Saturday morning and another 3" last night. I have my base already packed down. I am not putting the snow blower on this year. I will plow with the back blade and loader bucket.

spit some snow this afternoon, none of it stuck to the ground, Rain and snow mix. I don't like snow.

Neither do I.

I lived with lake effect. I've driven in a whiteout. I've lived with over 200" a year and over 90" in "one dumping" for a snowtorm (tug hill, NY back in or around 99). Also remember the snowstorm of 1978 in the north east LOL.

Being in NC in now, my wife spending 30 years in Vermont, when we retire, we both agree that when we move, there will be less snow than where we're at right now in NC.

We're use to snow. Can live without it.

The company that I used to contract for had a lot of land up around Tug Hill. They wouldn't cut wood in the wintertime there because the guys would cut trees in the AM and they would be under 3 feet of snow by noontime. I was coming down into Boonville one night racing a storm back to the motel. I lost.

It turned into whiteout conditions so bad that I had to look at the speedometer just to make sure that I had stopped.

I have memories of driving to work on snow covered US 65, or struggling to get home in the dark on snow and ice covered roads. Seeing lots of people off the side of the road in the ditch, some overturned. Yeah lots of fun. NOT. I am good to go without snow.

I ran a section of I-275 north of Toledo in a snow storm once.

ONCE.

I was running about 10MPH and the only way I knew I was on the road was to stay between what I could make out of the shadows of the overpasses. Luckily that road is almost arrow straight in some sections.

When I first moved up to that area, half the people would tell me that if I was driving in a whiteout, that I should stop. The other half told me that I should keep driving in a "slow manner" and stay to the road "as I know it". Found it funny, half the people telling me to stop, the other half telling me to go. First time I hit a white out in Pulaski on I-81, I just kept driving at a slower speed.

Couldn't see *****, and hard to believe how fast the wipers were going, but came out of it pretty quick and I didn't tail end anyone.

Counted my blessings that I didn't get into an accident. Only time driving in "whiteout" conditions, and never want to do it again.

18 years in NC and no one really thinks about needing to keep warm clothing in the car for winter driving conditions.

You get that same difference of opinions about driving in heavy fog. In my case there was no decision to be made; there were fields on both sides and I couldn't even tell where the road was. I generally don't mind driving in snow but there are times when there's no need to be on the road. A couple of times I have just stayed in a motel; if I'm going to sleep in a strange bed I prefer that it isn't in a hospital room.
