I have borrowed a Kubota L260 from a buddy and it is not charging. When Running VM shows ~12VDC at battery. Below is a pic of the alternator. I am guessing that if I jump from two of these posts or from one of the posts to ground I should see ~14VDC. Is that correct and if so which post(s)?

If the charging system is working you should see about 14V at the battery with the engine running. A good battery, fully charged should read 12.6V.

it is not charging.

I agree with Dale, that looks like a generator. It also looks like a wire has become disconnected from the Field terminal (the one on the upper left in the photo). That would certainly stop any charging.

Thank you for the replies. FOr some reason I did not get notified that anyone responded.

That is scary..... First thing I would do is clean up terminals and replace connectors.... Crap like I am seeing is probably biggest fault of charging or electrical system problems...

Also appears to be a generator (dynamo) not alternator....

Thank you for the link.

Thanks Qubec Guy. I figured that would cause the described issue the problem I have is that if I test every combination I can think of between those posts with the engine running the meter still shows 0 VDC. Is that what is supposed to happen? What should the field terminal connect to?

The Field terminal of the generator should be connected to the F terminal of the regulator. DL Meisen was kind enough to send you the link to the manual. Look on Page 53 and you will see the wiring diagram. If you can't find the disconnected wire just run a new wire from the F terminal of the regulator to the F terminal of the generator.

I tested with meter across both posts with the engine running and it reads 0VAC.

I think if its a borrowed tractor you should return it to owner....

IF you want to pursue this maybe take generator to automotive/industrial electrical specialty shop and have it test... Then go from there.... But that is where paying out the bucks begin to fix someones else's problem...

Forget about your meter and attach a wire from the regulator F terminal to the generator F terminal.
