Been enjoying lots of good reading here.
Will be making a tractor purchase in the near future.
We just bought 8.75 acres in DEEP EAST Texas, near Toledo Bend Lake. I've been fishin and having a camp up there for near 20 yrs.
Looking to retire in a couple years and build a home on the property, which is 1.1 miles from the boat ramp at the camp we currently use.
We live and work, between Galveston & Houston.

My grandpa farmed for a living but I've never had a need for more than a garden / lawn tractor.
I currently have two John Deere riders, both bought new.
A 1988 model 160, and a 2008 model X300.
The ole 160 is looking pretty rough but she still mows when needed. Certainly has 3x over the amount of steel than that 2008 does.

All for now.
Y'all have a blessed Thanksgiving.

To the TBN forum.

Congrats on the new land. For that much land and what you want to do with it, you will need a "real" tractor.

Hello and welcome to the forums. I spent most of my childhood around Athens on our family farm. I moved away a long time ago. My parents moved back to the farm after they retired. Oddly enough, they have 3 JD riders and a JD ZT. Why they have 4 mowers for 2 people I have no idea, but it is fun to get everyone on them when we go an and visit. I told them to sell the riders and get a SCUT...it would be more fun. I have researched a number of dealers in the area, so if you need a list let me know. There are also a few folks on the forums here that are from the area that have lots of experience and could be a big help. Now get to shopping!

Glad to have you join us, Corkpuller. It's been many years since we used to meet friends from Baton Rouge at a campground just outside Hemphill for a week of fishing at Toledo Bend. There was a time when I thought we'd eventually find a place to retire near there, but those plans never materialized.

Well, that's right where we're at. East of Hemphill to Lowes Creek. :)
