Exactly. The dent on the right rear side of the Chevy should have been a clue to someone. I doubt that was from this mishap which means he was at least at strike 2. Or maybe it was, hard to say.

I just wonder, when the stupidity of dragging around a good part of a house, took hold. So, then. when when things go south, I just have to ask, don't you think the whole idea was just a bit beyond necessary and common sense?

My guess would be the dent happened when the trailer made contact with the side of the bed on the truck.

BUT.....the trailer stayed connected to the tow vehicle! He may have been a poor driver, BUT he was not towing wrong necessarily.

I sort of think I deserve a spot in this list. A 2,800 lb trailer and a 10,000+ LB machine hanging from my half ton 2017 Ram Rebel 5.7L Hemi with the Max-Tow group and 3.92 gears. It is legal to 9,640 lbs with the load bars on it, and they are. Power and braking is fine, but I worry about the trailer pushing the rear end in turns with the 5,400 lb truck. I took it REAL slow and easy.

I only moved it about 10 miles, but I knew it was there for sure! Shocking, the trailer brakes were actually strong enough to lock up the tires with the machine on it with the controller set at level 10. I never thought that they would be able to lock it up.

I don't consider that a major offense. I've hauled similar skid steers behind my Ram 1500 in the past. That truck had a max towing capacity of 10,200. Skid steer with bucket plus 1500# brush mower was definitely over 10K, not to mention trailer weight. As long as you're taking it slow & easy, roads are dry, trailer has good brakes and not a lot of hills in your path it isn't a problem. Yes, I'm sure the safety police will be along to chide us, but reality and legality are separate things. No, I wouldn't do it often and not in bad conditions either. But once a year to rent a skidder to clear snowmobile trails works...

Now I have a Ram 2500 so it isn't an issue.

I can't make out the model on that Bobcat skid loader, but it looks a good deal smaller than that one I borrowed last week . The one I borrowed was a New Holland C232, it's a big soon of a gun. I think it's the second from the biggest NH that is made.
