How's it going, working hard or hardly working? Almost time for some more pictures of something, did some youtube trencher research, seen some good ones and homemade ones, some of those made me ask myself, what are you crazy. Have you used yours yet? If you need more photographic incentive, buy something else and take pictures of it.

But if you say your to busy, have no time for taking pictures, I'll take that as a hint that your waxing your sleigh, washing the red suit, exercising the reindeer and checking over the nice list that I'm on..................

Dug about 4 feet of ditch a little over 2 feet deep just as a test, worked fine - Found out it's missing a "crumber" (kind of a floating "hand" that lays on the ditch bottom and drags the "crumbs" along so they get kicked up to the top by the digging chain) - This unit's probably too old for that to be available, but I have a pic of it in the operator manual, and it doesn't look too hard to fab one...

Mostly just been un-laxing and re-winding a bit, took a while for the stress of finding out it wuz only gonna take about a YEAR longer than I had  to get the "cracker box palace" back on its feet (literally) - then this season's winds gave me just enough of a preview to figure out a re-do of a small section of the tenting around the house - got that fixed just in time for more rain, then spent a couple days clearing out the area where the customized crane lives (only dry place I have to work on cars, both of which are whimpering a bit)

Tomorrow I'll work on getting the windshield replaced on the Corolla (by letting someone ELSE do it and the insurance PAY for (most of) it (I hope) - Corolla also needs work on drivers side door (won't open from the inside) which I'll do - then the Outback needs brakes all around, and the windshield squirter DOESn'T...

Then Friday morning I'll wire a bit over $41k to the bank, and start figuring out what's NEXT on the never-ending list... (Probably NOT that "good" one you referred to, sorry)

Still got about 40 feet of wall to pull off all the old siding (and at least HALF of the sheathing under it), hopefully I'm done with the REALLY un-appreciated surprises - if it lets up raining before I need to figger out how long a CUBIT is, I'll try to grab a couple pics of the current situation...

Once I'm as far along on the tear-off as I'm gonna do til spring, I'll get back into more "picture-worthy" stuff - hopefully with enough "alacrity" you won't hafta look on the SECOND page of this forum to harass me :D

'bout it fer now... Steve

OK, since I've been a bit lazy I thought a few night shots might be a good plan; (Besides, it quit raining just before bed :D)

Southeast corner, looking West - HousTentNite-1.jpg
Same corner, looking North - HousTentNite-2.jpg
South side again, looking West from midway - HousTentNite-3.jpg
South sliding door; foam is plugging up the completely GONE sill plate and some of subfloor - this is the "wait for spring" part, will likely require replacement of about 10' of sill plus up to 4 ft of subfloor and a few studs. Will get a new sliding door at that time. Will also require shoring up with double 2x12x12' temp header OUTBOARD - HousTentNite-4.jpg
Six of Costco's LED shop lamps aimed horizontally give me PLENTY of light for night work; now all I need is the ENERGY to take advantage of it

On another note, Frank (the plank) got some temporary legs the other day, not shown are the two 4'x12' 16 ga. sheets leaning against the right-hand wall of the container, that're now sitting on TOP of "Frank" with a butcher paper pattern, to be cut out with the cheap HF skil saw and a metal cutting blade - those will get painted, edge punched and will close off the upper "wedge" areas of the roof (where the HF crane got modded a while back) - later, the lower parts of that area will get their tarps replaced with square tube-framed doors -

OK, now it's REALLY time for bed  ...Steve

Thanks for the reminder... I have forgot to call the insurance company the last 41 days in row about the huge crack in my wife's car windshield. Thank goodness she hasn't reminded me as many times... but I really shouldn't let it get to double digits, me thinks.

When you get the cubit figured out, tell me what exactly Gopher Wood is.

One good thing about all the rain you get, you dont have to worry about forest fires like down town California and you dont have to plow it. I had to plow 3 times so far this month of 5-6", the snow storm I got yesterday I had to plow a sloppy 5" pus dirt because the ground not frozen yet, I gotta do some modifying on my plow to correct that, but western Me. is getting dump on and the ski slopes love it. That's a good hobby for you to take up in your spare time this winter, might releave some of that stress you have, a couple 50' jumps and a few somersault should do it.

Clamps clamps and more clamps, you must have a small fortune in clamps, is that what the 41k was for, not sure about you but that's a lot of $$$$ from where I come from, and you got better lighting under the tarp than I do in my garage, I'm not gonna sit on your lap but if you would put lights for my garage on your list.

Are you cutting that sheet metal with abrasive blade of metal cutting blade and with what size HF skill saw?

Cubit is easy; IIRC, tip of the thumb to the elbow (I guess if Noah was tall enough there'd been more room for animals)

Gopher wood - Wikipedia

Best I can offer, several "opinions" there...

Useta ski up to about half my life ago, by then it'd already started hurtin' more than it wuz worth

All THOSE particular clamps come from HF, probly got a couple hundred$ in those - Necessary on this hill if I want my rube goldberg stuff to stay PUT  Doing it that way keeps the heavy tarps tucked up under the fascia and keeps everything BONE DRY (including me)

But that's NUTHIN' compared to the weld clamps, probly at least $1500 in those, NOT counting another $3-500 in vise grips over time, plus another $800+ in various woodworking clamps - Guess I should change my name to "Jed", obviously I'm a "Clampett" sorta guy

Mentioned this earlier, the $41k (proceeds from smaller of 2 401k's) is to finish paying off the mortgage so I can tell my insurance to POUND SAND. I have my OWN plans on how I'll fix/improve MY place, now I can do it MY way on MY schedule. The payoff happens this Friday...

THEIR way woulda meant I'd just hafta DO IT OVER - and since this ain't Beer, Sex or Pizza, I'm NOT INTERESTED

"you got better lighting under the tarp than I do in my garage" Mine too; those lights'll end up scattered in various containers, etc, when they're no longer needed where they are...

"Are you cutting that sheet metal with abrasive blade of metal cutting blade and with what size HF skill saw?"

Answered clear back in August, when you asked about a more "spendy" version

https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/build-yourself/387658-container-weld-shop-build-48.html

The money I saved by NOT getting one like you asked about, is part of what bought this one

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Evolution-15-Amp-14-in-Chop-Saw/1000129713

(my price as a vet was $340)

The HF saw on a coupon wuz $30, metal blade $20, worth the $50 for what it does. Piece of angle or square tube for a guide, zips through 14-16 ga steel like it was plywood, added benefit is that it does NOT set the wood floor of a container on fire  - kinda makes a mess, but one of these
3" Magnetic Sweeper with Wheels
And one of these
Long Reach Magnetic Pickup Tool with Quick Release

Takes care of everything from powder to chips - I use the roll-around one first, dumping THAT leaves a 30" long ROW of metal on the floor. Then I use the small one, swipe it along the "dump line", then I can dump THAT into a coffee can - almost takes longer to type that than DOING it...

Gettin' close to supper time; later... Steve

"Answered clear back in August, when you asked about a more "spendy" version"<<<<<<Are you freeken kidding me, only thing I remember about last August is I turned another year older, hot heavy in my wood-stove rebuild and someone was talking about building some sort of new fangdagle supper sonic super duper exhaust fan for a container and I cant even remember if it worked, I am a Weldahh you know. But I went back in time and did find the that this page, only took me two hours>>>>>>> 7-1/4 in. 12 Amp Heavy Duty Circular Saw With Laser Guide System

That magnetic wheel thing would be nice as long as it does release the debris without trying to wipe the stuff of, I think you should buy it that way there you'd have something to take a picture of and I'd have something to look at and forget it about it 3 months from now and then go (what magnetic wheel thing), anit that what it's all about.............

Yeah, actually BOTH the wheeled version AND the "long handled" one work pretty good - but they work MUCH BETTER as a TEAM - the wheeled one is tricky to find a 3 foot long container to dump it into, and standing it on end is really clumsy. That's why I collect from the floor using the wheeled one, then DUMP it back on the floor (but in a 30" long straight line) and then pick up the straight line of metal with the smaller ROUND one, which is REAL EASY to dump in a coffee can.

I bought a SECOND pair of those for around the mag drill station (which is about 100 feet from the shop area), and those even work on my "custom gravel floors"

BTW, the exhaust fan thang hasn't worked YET, keeps gettin' sidelined by things that think they're more important  but thanks for reminding me, I still need to order the OTHER 3-1/2 sets of fans/louvers so they're here when I get back to it

Startin' to think my main problem is physical - my body thinks it's time to slow down, but brain hasn't got the message, it just keeps comin' up with crap for me to do/build...

MINIONS - THAT'S WHAT i NEED; YEAH, THAT'LL DO IT - 'bout a dozen of 'em to start - Oh, crap; then I'd need a place for 'em to stay. Dang, that's YET ANOTHER project  Oh well, bedtime... Steve
