Maybe a guy shouldn't go anywhere without carrying a fire extinguisher and booster cables! Heck, maybe that's what people carry in all those stupid back packs!

I'm sure Murphy would intervine. You could carry 364 days of the year and need it that other one day!

Violence and shooting someone is one thing. But when criminals fully realize that they will not be challenged in their criminal activity, all hellll will break loose. Just a free for all. Don't have to be here legally, don't have to pay taxes, just take what you want, when you want. Lovely!

Most crimes are committed by U.S. citizens.... just a reminder. ;)

Here's an interesting question.
For years I ran a business in the city, good central location but not the best location. I had lots of police customers who couldn't understand why I didn't have a gun at work.
My reasoning was this...I would have to have it in hand, ready to fire as I approached every customer! Thankfully I was never robbed but I reasoned a thief would have had their gun drawn before I would have a chance to draw.
The world's fastest draw wouldn't stand a chance facing someone already gun drawn.
A carry permit can be handy if one is threatened but even that can happen within 2-3 seconds.

Both my brother and Dad were shot at close range within arms reach... both were working when the robbery attempts happened...

Brother was a booth all night Shell Gas Station cashier while going to college... two guys pull up and one points a gun at my brother's head and said open the door... my brother said F U and dove... the guy fired several shots and drove off... all on camera... police were 2 minutes away and then the boss comes downs... he said were you afraid... brother said you told me the glass was bullet proof... boss said that is only for the first shot... brother said I quit!...

Dad was in the office and I guy orders him to open the safe... there is NO safe and never has been... he gets made and pulls the trigger... Dad's reflexes were able to hit the guys arm and shot went over Dad's ear and into the wall... the guy fires again... Dad in 70 and in sitting position... the bullet goes into the ceiling... then the gun jams.... so the guy pistol whips Dad as someone is pulling in and takes off... blood everywhere...

Dad was quite upset with himself... saying if he was younger the guy would have been in the hospital... but at 70 and going to Chemo and Dialysis Dad was just a shadow of himself.... almost 50 years ago Dad was the United States National Heavyweight Boxing Champ... they eventually caught the guy and he did get sent away...

Uh, I think you might want to review that math. (38.6 if you use 10,000)

And prof fate's point is valid, IMHO....location has a lot to do with statistics. His point about the number of people that knocked on his door since moving rural can further be reduced to near zero (near impossible to escape those pesky census takers) by the use of a gated entrance, because that is our experience.

While I have loaded, chambered firearms quite handy here at home, I don't carry here at home normally. When I go to town, where the odds of an incident rise, I do carry, or have one in the vehicle.

What an amazing story!
And "SO I guess you best put a kitchen knife in their hands after you shoot them! LOL" ...my luck in all the excitement I would grab a butter knife.
I was thinking about all this mugging stuff when today wife and I had lunch out. Of course wife has me stop at a dollar store on the way home...I wait in the car.
Soon this lady carrying a bag walks over, opens my door and sits in my lap!
Poor thing...her car was nearby, same type and color. She was so embarrassed...I told her that was ok, stay put and we'll chat until wife comes back.
No...I never thought about shooting her, it was funny as could be.

This is one of the rare instances where the person doing the shooting in protection of their life has NOTHING to worry about.

You have a big arse SOB with neck tats who is in jail on some basic burglarly charges and he beats up a guard with another inmate to escape from jail, and then he breaks into your home? This is what you call having no brains, and you're going to do something stupid to other people because you don't care and don't have any brains. Prime example of why EVERY woman should know how to use a gun.

We had a serial rapist escape from the jail next to my old shop. Guy cut across the back field, stole a truck from a repair shop. Went through the ditch next to the shop and belly hung the truck on the rail road tracks. Blew the engine in the truck. Then tried to car jack a little old lady. Little old lady hit him with her Volkswagen bug and put him in the hospital :D

I consider myself a reasonable man who sincerely tries to turn the other cheek, but for some reason when grown men either prey on children, women or the elderly, there is a part of me that wouldn't mind if they were put down on the spot and let God figure out what their issue is. One could argue with my line of thinking my God needs to figure out what my issue is as well.

I agree. To me the lowest of human life is a man who harms women and children. Harming the elderly rates right up there. Videos of a pro football player hitting a woman with his fist...!!!!!

Most people are totally unprepared for a gun fight. Unless I missed it, no one talked about training. I went to the Front Sight four day defensive handgun course. Best investment I ever made.

Most CCW holders are incompetent pistol shots. As are most LEO's. They do not shoot enough.

Here is the KISS advice I offer:
Know your state laws.

NEVER have a drink, not even one, if you are carrying.

Never try to defend anyone you do not know

Understand and practice situational awareness.

Always run away if you can. If you cannot run, find cover and hide. Let the bastard come to you.

Get insurance if you intend to carry... BTW, it is possible you will wound or kill a bystander if you shoot like most CCW holders

Get training

Get a lot of practice and do it often. It is a perishable skill.

Shoot some competition so you realize how poor your shooting skills are at targets that are not moving or shooting back. The little bit of stress of competition is way less than that of an actual fight for your life. And yes, you will miss a 12" target at 7 yards that is not moving. I have seen a lot of people do it.

I agree 100% also...women, kids, elderly and physically/mentally handicapped.
We called guys like that p----'s (another name for cat). That's not a man but wimp.

There are a lot of very interesting old police and military instruction films on You Tube. I never understood why a bullet would not reflect off pavement or a hard surface like a beam of light in a mirror, but instead it goes flat. Makes me understand what I often witnessed target shooting. Good for shooting people behind a vehicle or hiding behind a corner.

I don't know why in this day and age, Women get any special consideration? Can't have it both ways, if you ask me.
