We use rings and stone circles,as available at the time. Start with 3 or 4 logs side by side on ground, topped with 1/2" to 1" sticks laid perpendicular to logs, third layer is leaves, twigs, paper or other kindling, forth layer is same 1/2"to 1" sticks as second layer. Final prep is leaning a few of same logs as we started with around the pile then light kindling.

I also build upside down campfires: upside down campfire - Google Search

Start with the big stuff on the bottom and the falling embers start them burning. Works best if air can flow up under the big logs, like setting up on expanded metal:

Saw that in one of the videos posted.

Very interesting.

I have built a million fires over the years but the last few years I have switched to the upside down fire almost exclusively. IMO it is the easier and last the longest with the least maintenance. Once you master it you will wish you learned this long before.

Does anybody remember the Left Handed Smoke Shifter while Boy Scout camping?
To start a camp fire I use balled up news paper with pine 'fat wood' pieces that that are shaved inside the square pyramid of small logs.

Okay, okay, I'll give the swedish candle a try!

That looks different. The guy really needs to tighten and sharpen his chain though and ditch the shorts! Nothing makes me cringe like watching someone running a chainsaw in shorts.

That chain sure is loose!

But I wouldn't say the chain isn't sharp. It probably could be better, but did you ever try cutting in that direction with a normal chain saw? They really are not designed for it. Put a ripping chain on and then you'll make headway.
