Trailer mover vs rear hitch on Ventrac

Kind of like using an old tractor that doesn't have live power takeoff, and you push the clutch and the brush hog pushes the tractor, sometimes it isn't pretty ...... maybe you need a brake on the roller... jim

I don't know exactly how hard it is to change front attachments on your Ventracs/Steiners, but on my Power Trac, I took a blank quick attach plate and welded a 2" receiver to it. That is oh-so-handy! It's nice to put a trailer ball hitch in there and be able to drive up to a trailer, drop the ball under and up into the trailer's socket, and lift the trailer jack off the ground and off you go. You could stop and secure the trailer to the ball if you wanted, just to be safe. There's all kinds of stuff you can put into that 2" receiver and being able to see it up front is, as most of you know, very nice!

MR. that is what I did but I remove a bolt and insert a shank off of a box blade I got a TSC. now it is a ripper. I also made a boom that fits the same mount, so it gets a lot of use. All made from cut off scrap I save ..... jim

Yep. Lots of good stuff you can make. I took a longer plow share and used that for a slicer to edge sidewalks, driveways, baseball infields. And I used the same thing as a cable plow to pull in black plastic water line to my garden about 8" under the sod. It made a little tiny slit in the grass. I've thought about making a boom pole, but have no need for it.... yet!

When I was building my trailer I used the boom I made for the PT. to pick up and get the positions needed for welding. The Ventrac is really weak in the hydraulics, but it gets around better cutting grass... jim

Not a front mount like my first post, but I have now been using the 2" receiver hitch with a trailer ball. Been pulling a 2 ton farm dump trailer and it tows well. I made some extensions so I could use the front hydraulics to dump the trailer.

The only odd thing is I have to really rev up the Ventrac for the dump function to work. Must not have much hydraulic pressure?

That is what I said before they are weak in the hydraulics, I think Steiner addressed this with a separate pump. I had one and it was a lot stronger in the hydraulics ....... jim
