I saw this. There’s 1 strap on the load. IMG_0883.JPG

That's the kind of thing which scares me most. Sometimes you even see them reaching out the window to stabilize the load. The worst part is that those are the same people who criticize because what you drive is "too big."

We all know the legacy of the Ford Pinto with it's exploding gas tank. Yet how often do you see somebody carrying a gasoline can or propane tank on one of those receiver hitch carriers? Talk about no protection; I cringe every time I see one especially since they generally are held on with an el cheapo tie down strap, the type of which I have never bought because I can find all that I need on the side of the road.

Many of folk also have the 1.25 to 2" receiver adapter before that hitch carrier.

Just curious why Ford didn't do what Jeep did...give everyone a receiver hitch to protect the fuel tank? Darn, that Pinto was a fun little car to drive!

Despite it's reputation that little 4 cylinder seemed like a tough little motor also. I never owned one but a few friends had them when we were in HS so you know what a beating they took.

In that generation of small low priced Fords I liked the Maverick better. At least it had a V8.

My first new car was a '70 Maverick with a 6 banger. It was supposed to be Boss 302 Mustang. Never quite forgave my Father for that one since I was the one paying for it. Two months later, I drove from Alaska to New Mexico and installed a High Performance 289. I was 17. I finally sold that car in 1999 and it was still beautiful.
