What I'd really like to do is find a logger that would work with the guy I'm getting to do some land clearing. Such as, the trackhoe pushes trees to the burn area and the logger cuts and loads from there. Not sure if they'd work that way or not.

If you're thinking of the trackhoe pushing the tree over to remove the stump, cutting the stump off for burning and loading the trunk, you won't find anyone to do that. Two reasons: 1) Pushing over the tree has the risk of tearing the fibers internally making it useless for lumber 2) A tree with dirt/mud/stuff on the trunk is a "dirty" tree and the plant doesn't want those either.

If you do find someone to do this, let me know! I'd be willing to make him a really good deal! My basal area is about twice what it should be and I'm losing trees because of it.

I did not know that. Please tell me more, or send me a message.
How can the Mill, or anyone tell that the tree was cut a foot above ground or pushed over?
I don稚 know chit from wild honey about sellin timber.

I have 80 acres - I have ancient Ponderosa pine on this 80. You guys are talking Greek when you talk about timber exemption, etc. I suppose if I were to ever have selective logging - it would be smart to know what is required here in WA.

HOWEVER - I find it difficult to understand why there would be special taxes on timber grown on your own land and sold off for lumber. But, then again, this state being the way it is - if they thought they could get away with it - they would have a tax on your taxes.

To the best of my knowledge - there are no special taxes on the growing & selling of wheat or hay in WA.

I do have what here in WA is called a business exempt sales tax certificate. Anything I purchase that will be directly used in my woodworking business can be free of state sales tax when I purchase it. It was a flash in the brain pan when I bought the Kubota - but I could not justify that the tractor would be 100% used for the business only.

Besides - its just a whole lot less gut wrenching to pay the tax and be done with it. Otherwise - you could be facing years of wrangling with the state and face the fees and potential penalties.

Systems developed/written by attorneys - administered by politicians - understood only by attorneys. It's a real den of snakes........

I think (bad idea I know) what corkpuller was angling for was a way to avoid paying sales tax on a chainsaw.

So if he bought a pro level saw at $1,000 he would save $82.50 in Texas sales tax.

I was not angling for anything, I was looking for folks to splain real life experiences with this sales tax exemption, concerning the Timber exemption.
But, your example would certainly apply.

Maybe ‘angling’ was a poor choice of words. I hope you get the info you need to decide. TBN is full of information and help.
