Kando, now that you have absorbed all these solutions I think you are the perfect solver of my similar problem. The work light on my drill press is broken and I can't budge that bulb base no matter what I try. Tried broom handle, channel locks, needle nose plies, collapsing the walls, super glue a dowel in there. Nothing works. Here is a picture. DSCN0018.JPG

You might try collapsing the light bulb socket and removing it. Or you could just cut the whole thing out and put a new light bulb base in for like $2.

I've taken several of those bases out with needle-nosed pliers, grabbing and twisting a side to shrink the base a bit.

But I don't think they will work on a rounded-off drain plug.

Did you try using the needle-nose pliers like circlip pliers... open the needle-nose inside the screw base (on two inner sides) and twist?

And I take it that it is a screw in base, not a bayonet base. It looks like a screw base.
