K0UA is my amateur radio callsign since when I upgraded to Extra class in 1975. Of course the second character is a "zero" not an "oh". Since I was licensed in the Zero FCC radio district. There are 10 radio districts in the USA. Many other countries use a similar system.

Amateurs will introduce them selves to each other by their callsigns.

As you can see I make no attempt to hide my identity.

I'm not really a farmer, but I own an old dairy farm I call Quicksand Farm. In the earliest recorded mention of the property I can find (1683) it is described as "upon The Quicksand Pond."

Steppenwolfe is from the Herman Hesse novel . He was a German philosopher of the early 1900's. The novel is a personal study of an aging man coming to terms of his youth versus growing old. He calls himself a " lone wolf of the Steppes ". A topic I'm sure many of us have visited. I have always been a bruiser of a man, now coping with sitting on the porch so to speak...

Wagtail is for my favourite Aussie bird; a "Willie Wagtail". It also works with my horse's 'swishing' tail.

I went on to name my sprawling (6 acre) property "Wagtail Park"... which is a humorous reference to a large country estate.

Yes, James - KC7SW here( advanced since '68 ). Ah, figured it out. When a zero is used with letters - it has that odd little top hat to distinguish from an - oh.

Do you sell them to NY State? DEC always releases ring neck pheasants near a barge canal near me. They end up hanging out next to the state highway (looking for feed-time?) until they fly up into cars and smash out the grill. (Don't ask me how I know.)

No;for myself;I own an uplands preserve/dog training facility.Oddly the windshield thing happened to me with one of my own birds;had 400 miles on that truck at the time.

In most fonts, zeros are a bit narrower than ohs; 0 vs O. When handwritten in a place where there may be any question as to whether it's a digit or a letter I always put a diagonal slash through the zero.

My User Name is just who I am. My wife is Doofy2. We wanted personalized license plates and found it a real chore finding ones we liked. For a state with only 700,000 residents...all the good names were taken. I wanted "BUFORD" or "RASTUS" both were already taken. Doofy suits me though as that is my disposition.

One thing I believe I have noticed is we are over-represented here on this forum. It would seem that there are far more of "us" (licensed Amateur Radio operators) here on this forum than there are distributed in the general population. I am not sure why that is. Many of us do not use our callsigns, as user Id's, but there was a thread asking who among us were hams, and they just came out of the woodwork. Far more than I would have thought.

It is hard to make a proper zero here.

Never thought I would "come out." I have a General class license. And my wife does as well.
