I was an adjunct professor at a couple of universities for about 18 years and given that I was younger [and arguably cooler] than the usual faculty the students started calling me by my first name with the Dr title in front. [plus my last name is not long but is still a little difficult to pronounce] It just stuck and even now there are friends, business associates, and family members who just know me as DrRod.
I taught some college courses also, one of my friends refers to me as Dr.

How times have changed, first computer I used for work was a PDP11, mainly used for aerotriangulation, a block of 100 images would take 6- 8 hours to run a single iteration, (and that was after about 150 hours of work to create and prepare the data for input). When I retired the entire process from preparation to final results would take 20 hours or less, the AT iteration was a couple of seconds at most and I could run multiple iterations with automatic blunder elimination and error checking as well.
Still liked unix a lot more than windows, so much less overhead...

I am but don't use the title, gets you into too much trouble when people seek free medical advice and I am not an MD.

Me neither but it really impresses your date when getting a good table at a fancy restaurant. Just be sure to bail when someone screams “Is there a DOCTOR in the house!!!??”

The area around our tree farm was called Ginger Hill because of all the soft ginger sand that the horse drawn wagons trying to skirt the Grand Kankakee Marsh would get stuck in. So I thought about using Ginger Hill Farm, or Ginger Hill for short. Well, back then, that name was already taken by, um, how should I say it... an actress in the adult entertainment industry. Next choice.
Now I know why and who caused those Ginger adds on my PC lately!

To be honest, I don't know how or why I came up with Dragoneggs. Been using it a long long time. I just remember my sister having a love for Dragons. After reading this thread and thinking I googled it and found this:

Dragon's Egg - Wikipedia

I might have to read it!

Oosik, great thread! I didn't see this until today but coincidently started a similar thread on Avatars. Great minds think alike! :D

I like those terminals because you could remove the evidence and burn it if you had to. :D

Mine shows the life that I was living when I first went online; travelling around the northeastern states cruising timber and doing other forestry work, making decent money and not staying in one place very long.

Now this is a joke - Jstpssng. Soooo- the missing letter is an "A". That's good to know.

and a couple I'm still stuck on so I'll start with my northern neighbor. oosik said add an A, will I did and still dont get it,

Since he traveled around a lot, never staying long in one place, he was often 'just pAssing' through.

I keep it as a reminder that sometimes you really don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.

Since he traveled around a lot, never staying long in one place, he was often 'just pAssing' through.

So there was two missing letters or did I miss count............

Actually there is 3 missing vowels. j U stp A ss I ng.

I bet your good at Scrabble, guess I was off by a mile if vowels are translated into distance. No wonder I couldn't get Jstpssng user name, but now I do just have to remember to add back in the vowels, wonder if his ears are burning...........

Right.

But I'm guessing most people only had one of them wrong.

Probably he used it as a shortcut like kids do today on text messages. I very rarely text because when someone replies I can't read most of what they text anyway.

And Oldpath, I havent played Scrabble in many years but I do play Sudoku and word jumbles in the newspapers.

Just a warning note geoduck. Your current avatar is GREAT. Far better than a pic of the REAL thing - right. More visually appealing, albeit, less tasty. Also - I could have had a user ID of "basket". Another of my farewell gifts is an authentic Eskimo willow root basket. VERY rare, hard to find - even more difficult to acquire. Museum quality - museum priced.

Anyone remember loading the washing machine?

Yes, and placing the sign on top of the dishwasher sized enclosure prior to starting a long process that said in effect "Don't touch me, breath on me or put anything near me that can cause a static electric spark, if you do you have to deal with a large pizzed off photogrammetrist!"

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I finally had a chance to google OOSIK. I saw your original post but was not quite sure what structure you were talking about and must not have read close enough.
